One of the most 'fun to drive' vehicles I've owned
Source: Cars.com

..."Purchased new, this car has more neat features than you'll find on most 2007 cars like using the key in the driver’s side exterior door lock to open or close all the windows,
an air conditioning vent in the glove box and the multi-function trip computer with distance per drive, mpg, and time on road...

An utter waste of time and money
Source: Cars.com

...The dealership just said it is known to happen. There were numerous other repairs as well. Even routine maintenance is expensive. I bought it without researching it, as I loved the styling. But that is the only thing going for this car. And, the 2.8 litre V6 is fast! I now have a Ford Mustang, and I urge all to buy American. I have never been happier. The maintenance costs are reasonable, and these days Fords are not as problem-prone as VWs. The Passat is a fun car to drive, but buy it only if money and time are plentiful!"...

Most reliable car I've owned and I've owned 10!
Source: Cars.com

..."She's still in top shape after 7 years and almost 109,000 miles!
This car has never left me broken down by the side of the road.
The controls are intuitive, no need to read a thick manual to figure out the Tiptronic or anything else.
(I also own a BMW 325i and many of the features are awkwardly placed and hard to figure out.) The paint really lasts!
None of that awful sun fading that you see on so many cars these days. It's just been a great ride!"...

Worst car I've ever owned
Source: Cars.com

..."We originally bought a VW because we wanted better gas mileage and emissions.
Yes, we saved money in gas but we've spent much more on repairs than we ever thought possible.
The car had 42k miles on it when we bought it and now the engine is gone a mere 45k miles later.
It had a certified warranty with purchase and we had 21 warranty repairs before the engine went out.
And if you're looking for a car with cheaper replacement parts, consider something else. Even VW sparkplugs are $16 a piece! It only gets worse from there. This is definitely a model/year to avoid."...

Favorite car I have ever had
Source: Cars.com

..."The 2001 Passat is a beautiful car. The exterior finish is like nothing I have ever seen before.
The finish is just as beautiful as the day it was new.
It has class but also is a bit on the sporty side.
The turbo gives it all the kick you need in an emergency situation.
It is a solid car that handles wonderfully and has a smooth ride. I have kept this car longer than any other I have ever owned just because it is truly a beautiful car. It just never seems to age!"...

Fun and safe!
Source: Cars.com

..."One of the safest cars available during that year.
Handling with the AWD is absolutely amazing! The V6 with the TipTronic transmission is fun, and quick.
More options then you'll truly ever need in a vehicle, which adds that the car is a great value, not easy finding a car with AWD, Navigation, Leather heated seats etc. for under $10,000"...

This car saved my wife and I in head on collision
Source: Cars.com

..."what a great car. it saved my wife and I in a head on collision with a suburban.
airbags work great! inside comfortable. 4motion handles great in the snow. it's an audi a4 at a more reasonable price."...

Check Engine Light Works
Source: Cars.com

..."Fun car to drive. Great handling. But it constantly needs repairs.
The check engine light comes on every other month.
Spent $3K in two months and the light still comes on. Whatever the issue, you are told it is not VW's fault. Mechanically the worst car I have owned."...

Very nice!
Source: Edmunds

...Traded in my 2001.5 V6 Passat for this car. Excellent build quality.
Fun to drive. The tiptronic 6 speed transmission is a marvel of modern engineering.
It works better than the manual transmission on my Passat.
Fuel economy is also great for a 5 cyl. car. There is no difference in mileage between the manual and the automatic with tiptronic.
Although from certain angles it does resemble the Corolla a little bit, if you see it from the front, there is no mistaking the chrome grille...

Too many problems to entertain
Source: Cars.com

...Not just things like replacing a timing belt which one should expect for a car with a lot of miles, but the computer goes nuts from time to time with "Emissions Test", or "Stop Now", or other warning. There have been too many problems with this car to list here, and each one is incredibly expensive to repair. One good thing: unlike other cars which may just stop on the road, this car gives you ample warning, and the response really decreases giving you ever indication that the car is having trouble. For example, your brakes won't work well in reverse (good luck parallel parking), and you...
