What is it?Source: MSN Autos...Interior styling is equal to, maybe better than our Lexus. Cons: Knew it when purchased- - - -interior is tight but, at 6'3", I am most interested in the front seats and have been leaving the back seats in the down position which not only gives the impression of more space- - -but does provide the space I need for golf clubs, etc. Driver seat is fine for me- - -gives impression of a sport car- - -snug but comfortable. Wife loves the passenger seat for the same reasons. Overall: Not for big haulers or gas mizers. Is great for the combo of sports feel and some SUV flexibility with fab. styling... |

Great Car!Source: Cars.com...Beyond usual maintenance he had to replace the fuel injectors at about 45,000 miles ($800.00). When I bought it I had to have the interior roof repaired as it was sagging down from the glue losing adhesiveness ($450.00). I use the car for business (financial planner) and it is great! Very comfortable and makes a great impression on clients and at the golf course. A big car..don't expect high performance and handling but if you need it for merging on the highway..the power is there. Beautiful car inside and out with a classy ride. We (my wife and I) LOVE it!!"... |

OK car but has had it's share of problemsSource: Cars.com...If you have to replace the catalytic converter (I did at 117k miles) buy the VW brand (~$900)and not a cheaper aftermarket brand (~$330) as my Golf rejected the non-VW brand! It's an expensive repair so don't waste money on labor/parts on the non-VW brand converter - the off brand failed on me at after 6k miles. Cup holders (front & rear) and center arm rest are cheap plastic and will break. I've replaced lots of other parts - mass airflow sensor, serpentine belt, electronic coolant temp sensor, coolant fan & thermostat, timing belt & water pump, cam shaft positioning sensor. On fuel economy alone, the 2010 Volkswagen Golf/TDI makes a strong case to compact-car buyers.
There are many engaging competitors, though.
The Honda Civic is a perennial favorite here, though its latest design isn't a favorite.
The Hybrid version has TDI-trumping fuel economy.
The latest Ford Focus matches the Golf with two body styles, and buyers tend to be attracted to its powerful SYNC entertainment system, but it's styled poorly.
The Mazda3 is the perennial favorite for handling, but it can't match the VW's solid feel, even after a full redesign this year that thoroughly upgrades the interior.
