Great economical carSource: Cars.com...It does getting used to the performance of the electric motor. It is slow to pick up speed unless you step on the gas and kick in the gasoline engine. The car is very easy on gas. I have been getting 48-50 miles per gallon on Hwy driving. The best I got was 51.5 MPG on Hwy driving. Stereo and climate contols on the steering are great. So is the dashboard display which give you a lot of information and helps you drive in an efficient and economical way. The looks small from outside but it is very roomy from inside. It has good leg room for the rear passingers. Overall it is a great car for the... |

Never thought I'd get one...Source: Edmunds...Pay half at the pump and going twice as far. At the gas station is where this car makes the most sense. I also realize why Prius drivers are so annoying to be behind.. its because they are trying to keep in ECO mode all the time! I just drive it like a regular car and I'm still getting 44 mpg with mixed driving. I am 6'2" and 238 lbs., so the seat was not made for me. I had to go to an upholstery shop to build up the seat bottom foam and side bolsters. Much much better afterward and no more neck pain. Crummy seats, but great car... |

02 PRIUSSource: Edmunds...In fact we bought an 08 Prius and gave the 02 to our son to drive to school. I expect we will always have Prius for the foreseeable future. Gas mileage is lower in winter (35-39), and as high as 48 mpg in summer on a 700 mile road trip. It's still weird when the engine shuts down when at a stop light....but that's just money in my pocket ! There have been zero-nada problems with anything. It just purrs along all the time. We like the 08 even better because Toyota updated many things like a a fold down rear seat, better stereo radio, and even more room in back seat... |

While the subcompact Honda Insight looks a lot like the Prius and is several thousand dollars cheaper, it's smaller inside and doesn't deliver the same 50 mpg that the larger car does.
Perhaps a more logical rival sits in Toyota's own showroom: The new-for-2012 Camry Hybrid offers a 41-mpg combined rating, mid-size sedan room and comfort, and it doesn't require the owner to put up with Prius jokes.
In the same vein is the laudable Ford Fusion Hybrid, with a 39-mpg combined rating in a refined, comfortable, and very competent U.S.
contender.
The Lexus CT 200h is also a hybrid hatchback, though it's a compact and several thousand dollars pricier.
But it adds back the fun-to-drive factor, not to mention a larger dollop of luxury.
Finally, for drivers who do most of their miles on the highway, the clean-diesel VW Jetta TDI (offered as a four-door sedan and a Sportwagen) gets highway mileage that approaches the Prius figures, and is far more rewarding to drive.
Its city mileage, however, is nowhere near the Prius.
