Great economical carSource: Cars.com...It does getting used to the performance of the electric motor. It is slow to pick up speed unless you step on the gas and kick in the gasoline engine. The car is very easy on gas. I have been getting 48-50 miles per gallon on Hwy driving. The best I got was 51.5 MPG on Hwy driving. Stereo and climate contols on the steering are great. So is the dashboard display which give you a lot of information and helps you drive in an efficient and economical way. The looks small from outside but it is very roomy from inside. It has good leg room for the rear passingers. Overall it is a great car for the... |

Never thought I'd get one...Source: Edmunds...Pay half at the pump and going twice as far. At the gas station is where this car makes the most sense. I also realize why Prius drivers are so annoying to be behind.. its because they are trying to keep in ECO mode all the time! I just drive it like a regular car and I'm still getting 44 mpg with mixed driving. I am 6'2" and 238 lbs., so the seat was not made for me. I had to go to an upholstery shop to build up the seat bottom foam and side bolsters. Much much better afterward and no more neck pain. Crummy seats, but great car... |

02 PRIUSSource: Edmunds...In fact we bought an 08 Prius and gave the 02 to our son to drive to school. I expect we will always have Prius for the foreseeable future. Gas mileage is lower in winter (35-39), and as high as 48 mpg in summer on a 700 mile road trip. It's still weird when the engine shuts down when at a stop light....but that's just money in my pocket ! There have been zero-nada problems with anything. It just purrs along all the time. We like the 08 even better because Toyota updated many things like a a fold down rear seat, better stereo radio, and even more room in back seat... |

Take one look at the Honda Insight and you'll see why it's perhaps the top rival to the 2011 Toyota Prius; it has nearly the same, swept-back aero-body roofline; however the Insight has Honda's IMA mild-hybrid system and disappointing mileage compared to the Prius.
The Prius is roomier than the Insight as well.
More noteworthy is the Fusion Hybrid, a roomy mid-size sedan that gets 41 mpg in city driving, with a very smooth hybrid system and a better ride-and-handling balance than the Prius.
Left-brain thinkers will opt for the VW Jetta TDI diesel, which costs more than gas-engined Jettas but delivers fuel economy in the 40-mpg range and a reputation for durability—as well as great handling and a suave interior.
Two other rival models are technically from the same automaker as the Prius, though they probably wouldn't like you to think about it that way: The HS 250h is a small luxury sedan based on the new Prius but incorporating a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and a variation of the Prius' hybrid system.
Overall, the HS feels somewhat cramped inside and isn't much more responsive than the Prius, while getting lower mileage.
The new Lexus CT 200h hatchback is a better choice for most who want a sportier, more distinctive hybrid; it has a roomy interior as well as improved handling and plenty of nice details.
