Practical VehicleSource: Cars.com...Gas mileage is steady at 33mpg, but I am an "eco-driver", the kind you hate to be behind. My two quibbles with the design are: Shifter is too prominent on dashboard, I am learning not to knock it out of gear when reaching for the radio; and rear quarter visibility not the greatest, but large mirrors help with that. After 15 years in a Toyota MR2, I like the upright seating position. Being 15 years older now makes me appreciate entry and exit ease. I've owned and driven three Toyotas over the past twenty-five years exclusively, reliability has been top-notch. I would never gamble my... |

visibility issueSource: Cars.com
..."I love this car except for one thing...the outside rear view mirrors are too high and large and greatly interfere with visbility on turns |

the car is not worth itSource: Cars.com...As I write this my car is parked and useless for the third time this year as the kill switch constantly goes screwy and won't let me start the car-tomorrow I am having it entirely removed to avoid any more issues but then it is open for thieves to take without a kill switch. I have had to wait longer having it fixed at times due to parts that were not readily available and needed to be special ordered. There is a blind spot on both sides of car that no amount of fixing the mirrors will help. It does not go from entrance to highway easily-bucks and slows down instead of speeding up. My... |

Matrix can't hardly survive 4 year lease cycle without repairsSource: MSN Autos...rear door freezes in winter Overall: This is my second and probably last Toyota; it has less the 49k and already required pretty expensive repair. Front brakes were replaced, belt became cracked and was replaced as well. Some problems were from day one, e.g. problem with switching from the 2nd to 3rd gear. Toyota couldn't find any problems and did nothing. Rear door freezing in winter and could hardly be opened. Again Toyota stated that there is nothing wrong and advised to leave the car in the garage until it will warm up... I doubt Toyota engineers ever heard about Canadian climate... |

Low Cost, Even Lower QualitySource: Cars.com...THe interior pieces just don't feel well made at all. The plastics are already fading and cracking, and the glove box creaks when you open it. Also, the reliability has not been so good. Since I took ownership 2 months ago, the a fan belt broke and the front bumper completely fell off the car when i went over a series of potholes in West Chicago. (The car showed no signs of damage before that happened) I once thought that Toyota's were quality affordable cars, but this car has changed my opinion. It is just put together really cheaply, and covered up with attractive pricing and styling. It is... |

We've all heard the argument for why someone drives that big SUV instead of a fuel-sipping mini-car on their epic two-hour commute: crash safety. And while there's a good bit... December 17, 2008 by Ralph Hanson 1
Though mechanically similar to the Pontiac Vibe, the 2009 Toyota Matrix has different styling inside and out, as well as some minor differences in equipment.
Its exterior styling in particular is smoother and cleaner, without overtly flared wheel wells like the Vibe.
In nearly all other attributes, the two vehicles are virtually identical.
The Spectra5 and Mazda3 are arguably more fun to drive than the Matrix, with peppy engine response and a tighter suspension, and similar in overall space—though the Mazda3 has a very tight backseat.
The Spectra also stands out for its long warranty, especially its ten-year/100,000-mile powertrain coverage.
The Subaru Impreza hatchback is also a worthy alternative to the Matrix; though it's somewhat more expensive, the Impreza has standard all-wheel drive, a torquey flat-four engine, and an enviable safety and reliability record.
