A vehicle I am PROUD to say that I ownSource: Cars.com
..."I'm 16 years old and I absolutely LOVE my 2002 Nissan Xterra SE 4X4. |

Great SUVSource: Edmunds...The exterior styling is really nice looking. The interior is pleasant looking and roomy, but very minimal. There are lots of plastic panels and very few bells and whistles you would expect. It would be nice to have more features. The biggest disappointment was the terrible factory sound system. One of the first things I did was replace the radio and speakers with an aftermarket system. The rear cargo is very nicely thought out with adjustable tie downs on the floor and roof, storage under the floor, and rear seats that fold down flush making lots of room for dogs or hauling. Cleans up nice... |

I guess my XTerra missed the 'Reliability' BoatSource: Cars.com...At 11k miles my transmission went out and left my wife and I stranded on the side of the highway in the middle of no where. Since I have had it back in the shop for a new fuel gaugesensor (all of a sudden didn't know how much fuel I had), new catalytic converter, new IPDM module, and currently the dealer doesn't know what is wrong with it because they are not getting an error code on their diagnostic machine. Needless to say, I have not been pleased with the service that has been conducted, nor have I been pleased having to have it towed to the dealer four times now. Three of those four were... |

Xterra SportSource: Cars.com...The Xterra won me over hands down. I drove it off the lot (tax, tags, everything included) for $24,500. Why would I pay $32, 578 for a 4runner. Yes, the resale may be higher, but I typically keep my vehicles until they're dead, so this really didn't factor into my decision.Great vehicle for the price, but each individual is different. The ride is extremely smooth for an SUV and the 261 HP engine is more than sufficient. Gas mileage is important, but it was not tops on my list. Basically, if you own an SUV, you have to accept it unless you purchase a hybrid.I would highly recommend the side... |

Ill Buy It AgainSource: CarGurus
...Off Road Edition. Due to the type of Suspension this vehicle has it is certainly not a Highway Performance SUV. |
Until the Toyota FJ Cruiser arrived a couple of years ago, the Nissan Xterra was in a class itself, the only model appealing to young people who not only wanted off-road capability but an interior versatile and rugged enough for taking along equipment.
The FJ Cruiser is even more of a mountain goat off-road, but its interior is tighter and not as useful or versatile as the Xterra's.
The new Wrangler Unlimited is much larger than the model it replaces and upholds much higher standards of safety and refinement than the old one; with its very boxy, rugged styling, it's perhaps the main alternative to the 2008 Nissan Xterra.
Finally, for those who don't need rugged off-roading ability but still want a high-utility, easy-to-clean interior, the fuel-efficient Honda Element might just fit their needs.
