I wish I had bought a v8 model explorer
Source: MSN Autos

...Pros: Has lots of features at a resonable price. Cons: Badly underpowered.
Handling needs improving. Overall: This truck comes with alot of neat stuff for a decent price, but the truck is not on the same playing field as its competition when it comes to handling and power.
This truck needs a V8 engine...

Firefighter Special!
Source: MSN Autos

...It is roomy, and has nice interior. Cons: cup holders! What a joke. over the air/radio controls is horrible. Not a lot of power of the line. It rides rough, but it is a truck, not a caddy... Overall: I own an 87 montero, as well as the 99. I love them both. From experience, if you do all of the recommended scheduled mantainence, then you will have a great truck. I think most people that have trouble with this truck have not changed timing belts, flushed transmission, or changed oil regularly. This is a solid truck...

General Workhorse
Source: MSN Autos

...Nearly 100,000 miles now and no major problems. Engine is solid but not overpowering. Sound system and HVAC are very good. Cons: Some of the interior plastic is flimsy. Cup holders broke. Engine could use a little more grunt. Overall: I bought mine new in 1999. I have a large boat and have hauled it cross country over mountains. Not one time has the motor even hinted at overheating. I have been hunting in the back woods and in 4 wheel this truck is one tough mountain goat. It hauls the kids around in town and long trips with ease. This is not cushy soccer mom SUV but a true workhorse. If that...

Amazing Montero
Source: MSN Autos

...The handling is very poor at high speeds and the body leans a lot in turns. All this is to be expected in a vehicle of this type and age though. Parts are hard to find and will usually be very expensive. Overall: Overall this truck has been absolutely amazing. My parents bought it when I was ten and both my sister and I were taught to drive on it. I am now a senior in college but it is still my favorite vehicle to drive. When originally purchased, it had 99,000 miles, however, it now has over 227,000 miles and is still running very well. It has been used for everything from commuting to work...

A great, reliable, sleeper SUV
Source: MSN Autos

...In the worst storm in years, I rescued my babysitter while easily driving around other stuck SUV's. The Montero is a real off - road mountain goat, and a true competitor to the Toyata Landcruiser at about half to 2/3rds the price. It easily holds 7 when we get company visiting, but still returns 16-18 mpg. I towed a 20" travel trailer and only then found its weak spot (torque), but still made it fine. Would easily recommend. Servicing is cheap (except at dealer), but you need to regularly change fluids. I bought mine with 104k miles and I've since added about 14k in the past three years. No...

Black Beauty

...Pros: The body style really caught my eye. The interior fits me, and the sound system is music to my ears.
Very trouble free. Cons: Not the strongest acceleration, but handles great!
Overall: I like the fact that not many people have the same vehicle that I have, so I get alot of head turning when I drive by.
I would totally recommend any of my family or friends to purchase a Montero of their own...

RUN.... DONT BUY- DEATH TRAP-BRAKE RECALLS
Source: MSN Autos

...I do not recommend this vehicle. 4WD is not tough as advertised. Has tough time holding up to rugged mountain terrain and on winding roads it is frightening. On downhill, brakes have failed and pedal to backwall have been close calls. Overall: Would not recommend this as a family car. Not a safe vehicle to ride in mountains with. Dont rely on the 4 WD. Vehicle is not good in ice or snow and definitely not solid performance in the high mountain terrain. Brakes are very bad. DO YOUR HOMEWORK before spending a penny on this SUV. There are better vehicles out there for the same money. SHOP...

Great truck - stylish yet tough. Good price/performance.
Source: MSN Autos

...Took me days to get all the mud off but the truck did it's work - ran like a champ! It is stylish, refined, yet can get dirty. Absolutely love this truck. Cons: The third row seats - I really don't use them and the passenger side seat makes a fair bit of noise when I have it up. I'd rather they gave the option to remove them or like the new models tuck away under rather than fold up. Overall: Excellent truck. Note: this is a truck, not a posh SUV. It rides more truck like than say a Lexus or Landcruiser. But I like that. Also, it gets better gas mileage than all in it's year/class - one of...
