This is a great safe car!
Source: Edmunds

...I'm 19 and I purchased my 09 lancer a little over a year ago and I was so happy with the car.
Recently i was in a 4 car accident and I was hit from behind, and also had front collision.
Not only did i enjoy and love the car but it did extremely well holding up in the accident.
All the airbags went off accordingly, and I was very happy with the safety of the car so much I'm going to get another!!!...

I love technology on the 2009 GTS
Source: Cars.com

..."I recently pick up the 2009 Lancer GTS with the multi-media center/navi.
Technology is awesome in this car (keyless thumb entry, Bluetooth, music hard drive, etc.) The ride is a bit bumpy maybe because i am a previous 04 Accord owner.
I have the automatic with tiptronic transmission. Quick pick up for168hp and handle corners like a pro.
Driving on regular transmission is a bit lazy. But for 23K, the technology, speed and looks, you can’t go wrong."...

6 month update
Source: Edmunds

...Well, I have owned this car for six month's now and it's been pretty good although I have had some issues in which iv'e had to return to the dealer for.
As with any car there are pro's and con's. However, there are more pro's than con's with this lancer ES CVT.
The pro's are great handling, very sharp looking, great mpg, good power, and a very quiet interior.
I did have a few issues early on with the trunk light not working and the rear airbags cover came loose from the clips that held them in place.
But those issues were fixed at the dealership. I traded in a 08 Honda...

Sporty Car !
Source: Cars.com

..."I've owned my 2009 Lancer ES-Sport for almost a year now and I love to drive it.The interior is a little noisier than a Honda Civic,
but some people prefer it.I've gotten as much as 35
mpg driven within 10 mph of the speed limit.Like any car the more aggressive you drive the worst your mpg will be.The car may be a little tight for large people."...

its a good starter car
Source: Cars.com

..."the lancer is a great car, but the problem is the performance.
a 120hp 4g94 engine is not really eye popping, but there are alot of aftermarket parts for the lancer.
the suspension is really great for a fwd car, the interior is great also.
i just think if they put a little more power into the car people would buy it. and its a good starter car for a high school hot rodder."...

I love this car

..."I had the Lancer GTS for 9 months before upgrading to this.
I knew there would be an improvement, but i honestly didn't expect it to be this much better.
This is one of my favorite cars from the outside, and the interior atmosphere is incredible.
I have all the Packages, and the seats are incredible, the headlights are incredible, the nav system is incredible. The title says it all. The car is a thrill to drive."...

Good Car/Good Value
Source: Edmunds

...I purchased this car on April 30th as my first new car after graduating college.
I considered the Subaru Impreza and Mazda 3 but was blown away by the price, standard features, and performance of the Lancer.
The 5 speed is fun and smooth. The engine could have more power, but with average 28-30 mpg I can't complain.
Build quality seems to be great so far. The ES comes standard with many nice features such as steering wheel mounted audio controls and alloy wheels.
You don't need to spend a lot of money to get a great looking Lancer.
The ES comes standard with many...

For those who don't want to shell out the $$$for a full on Evo, this model is perfect, you get the interior of an Evo, even has the TURBO & AWD! Great car!"...

Why should I also consider these?

The base Jetta comes with a long list of standard features and stands out for its torquey five-cylinder engine, available electronic stability control, and rear side airbags.

The Impreza is another sporty sedan that might be considered; it isn't quite as fuel-efficient as the Civic or Sentra, but its torquey flat-four engine provides good performance, and it comes standard with all-wheel drive.

The Sentra is one of the cheapest models; although it starts at a price substantially higher than the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer's, the base Sentra S comes a lot better equipped, with a six-speed manual, anti-lock brakes, and conveniences like steering-wheel controls, air conditioning, and keyless entry.

However, the Sentra's interior doesn't feel as inviting and sporty as the Lancer's.

The Honda Civic is also a bit more expensive, but it includes a much more refined, more rev-happy, and more fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, along with an equally slick-shifting manual transmission.

Each of these rivals is considerably quieter and more refined inside than the Lancer.
