Mariner Premier V6 FWD VOGA Edition

...New engine and transmission deliver smooth performance with more than adequate power.
White suede paint looks good. The black and cashmere interior is very sharp, and the stylish look has garnered many positive comments particularly from women.
Controls and displays are well laid out and easy to use / monitor without diverting attention from the road.
Getting almost 20 MPG in 65% city / 35% freeway driving in the Austin heat with the AC on.
Steering gives the car a very light feel but is accurate.
AC very powerful for front passengers on hot days even set at 78...

Bad Transmission
Source: Edmunds

...Took to dealer and had a solenoid replaced in October. This took 7 days to repair. Two weeks later all noticed it was slipping now in all six gears. Took car back yesterday and found out that they now need need to replace the transmission because the piece they need to replace is not sold individually. Now they have it and will take another week to get the transmission in and who knows how long that will take. GOD love Ford transmissions. They should stop making those new 6 speed transmission...

Leaking Fuel System
Source: Edmunds

...Ford Motor Co. doesn't tell you in the owner's manual
nor are dealerships aware that the "new" cap less fuel system that Ford has been installing on nearly all its vehicles for the past two years leaks when you top off the gas tank,
as confirmed by my dealership in both 2009 and 2010 models. Ford will not make any repairs for this and tells the customer not to top off the gas tank...

2009 Mariner Premier

..."The 2009 Mercury Mariner is one of the best looking small suv's out there.I have had it for two weeks now and it is a beautiful car inside and out.
The Navigation system w/Sync is probably the best system on the market.
Bluetooth phones and i-pods work seamless with it
and it's all hands free.I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a small suv.Ford has finally stepped up to the plate and is making some very nice cars."...

fantastico

...The driver is able to slide his hand around the outer rim of the wheel, but close his hand and feel the ridged grip on the inner lip whenever making a turn. The other interior visuals include the dark, plastic-feeling substance that, though it looks like a black drought-ridden wasteland, feels very smooth and slick. The radio and air conditioning are way ahead of its time, and has unique buttons that look as though they belong on the control panel of a space ship. The outside of the car is a fierce gray-blue. The color of this car only echoes the sleek look that the inside of the car...

Lovin it!
Source: Edmunds

...After researching several cars thoroughly for price, amenities, style, crash tests, reliability, and fuel economy, I settled on the Mariner. I am surprised at how many men actually like it because it is a pretty metallic green color. It is really quite sharp, with its black trim and slate interior. We love our sunroof and find it functional in Florida to let the heat out. The upolstery is the best--wipes clean easily and is very comfortable----the seats are cushy and the ride smooth and solid. I never wanted to touch a vehicle with dark interior, but this is remarkably cool and comfortable...

LOVE IT!!!

...I bought my car used a month ago and I love it!!! My only complaint is a few cosmetics scratches that were on it when I purchased the vehicle...

Mom's Car

...We have about 1200 miles on this car. About 23 mpg. The 6 speed auto took a little getting used to. 240 hp definitely makes this Merc fly...

Awesome SUV! Sync is great!
Source: Edmunds

...I love the 2009 Mariner. The Sync system is great, along with the leather heated seats, and the black on black colors.
The handling is great, has lots of power on the new 240HP V6 engine, along with great fuel economy.
I recommend everyone to go for the V6 engine instead of the I4. Has more horsepower and isn't much less of a fuel difference...

Why should I also consider these?

It would have been easy to list two dozen alternatives to the 2009 Mercury Mariner if one looked outside the narrow interpretation of what constitutes a compact SUV.

But one of the closest competitors to the Mariner is the all-new Dodge Journey.

In terms of styling, the Journey has strong looks that turn heads and plenty of features inside, such as multiple cubbies and rich infotainment options.

However, the Journey's interior design isn't pleasing to the eye, and the materials feel subpar for the category―not just in comparison to the Mariner.

In terms of driving dynamics, the Honda CR-V is one of our all-time favorites, but some people have a hard time getting past the SUV's styling and the lack of optional V-6 power.

More people admire the styling of the all-new Saturn Vue.

Like the Mariner, the Vue offers a hybrid option (a second hybrid choice is on the way for the Vue).

The Hyundai Tucson drives more like the pre-2009 Mariners, but does so with a low price and an especially long warranty.

2009 Dodge Journey
As a smaller crossover, the Journey's a good alternative to the Saturn Vue and Subaru Forester, maybe even to a Dodge Grand Caravan--just don't pile on the expensive options.

2009 Saturn VUE
With its available V-6 engine, the 2009 Saturn Vue is a bit more fun to drive than other compact SUVs; otherwise it’s not a standout.

2008 Honda CR-V
The 2008 Honda CR-V doesn't have hip style or performance on tap, but it has the security, utility, and frugality that many sensible moms want.

2008 Hyundai Tucson
The 2008 Hyundai Tucson no longer stands out in its class for performance or safety, but it’s still a great value.

2008 Nissan Rogue
With the 2009 Nissan Rogue, the crossover market gets another right-sized entry that’s just a little tighter inside than the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.
