Bad TransmissionSource: Edmunds...Took to dealer and had a solenoid replaced in October. This took 7 days to repair. Two weeks later all noticed it was slipping now in all six gears. Took car back yesterday and found out that they now need need to replace the transmission because the piece they need to replace is not sold individually. Now they have it and will take another week to get the transmission in and who knows how long that will take. GOD love Ford transmissions. They should stop making those new 6 speed transmission... |

fantasticoSource: Cars.com...The driver is able to slide his hand around the outer rim of the wheel, but close his hand and feel the ridged grip on the inner lip whenever making a turn. The other interior visuals include the dark, plastic-feeling substance that, though it looks like a black drought-ridden wasteland, feels very smooth and slick. The radio and air conditioning are way ahead of its time, and has unique buttons that look as though they belong on the control panel of a space ship. The outside of the car is a fierce gray-blue. The color of this car only echoes the sleek look that the inside of the car... |

Lovin it!Source: Edmunds...After researching several cars thoroughly for price, amenities, style, crash tests, reliability, and fuel economy, I settled on the Mariner. I am surprised at how many men actually like it because it is a pretty metallic green color. It is really quite sharp, with its black trim and slate interior. We love our sunroof and find it functional in Florida to let the heat out. The upolstery is the best--wipes clean easily and is very comfortable----the seats are cushy and the ride smooth and solid. I never wanted to touch a vehicle with dark interior, but this is remarkably cool and comfortable... |

It would have been easy to list two dozen alternatives to the 2009 Mercury Mariner if one looked outside the narrow interpretation of what constitutes a compact SUV.
But one of the closest competitors to the Mariner is the all-new Dodge Journey.
In terms of styling, the Journey has strong looks that turn heads and plenty of features inside, such as multiple cubbies and rich infotainment options.
However, the Journey's interior design isn't pleasing to the eye, and the materials feel subpar for the category―not just in comparison to the Mariner.
In terms of driving dynamics, the Honda CR-V is one of our all-time favorites, but some people have a hard time getting past the SUV's styling and the lack of optional V-6 power.
More people admire the styling of the all-new Saturn Vue.
Like the Mariner, the Vue offers a hybrid option (a second hybrid choice is on the way for the Vue).
The Hyundai Tucson drives more like the pre-2009 Mariners, but does so with a low price and an especially long warranty.
