Miata - lived up to all expectations
Source: Cars.com

..."Great little car. Really fun to drive - 6 speed manual transmission shifts very smoothly.
Great cornering and handling; very responsive; not a lot of pick up though - not slow, but not really fast due to its 4 cylinder engine.Best looking roadster around. I'll have this car forever...."...

Most fun car I've ever driven
Source: Cars.com

..."I have driven many supercars, including the Ferrari 599, Lamborghini Gallardo, Mercedes SLR McLaren, Bentley Continental, Audi R8 and Porsche GT3.
While they are extremely fast and capable, they simply can't compare with the sheer lightness and nimble handling of my first-gen MX-5 Miata...

An Everyday Drivers Car
Source: CarGurus

...It may not be the fastest, it may not be the largest,
it may not be the roomiest or spacious, it may not be exclusive, it may not be flashy, it may not have enough cup holders, but you can be for damn sure, it's the best car I've ever owned.
I will never give it up!...

6 years, 160K, but had issues
Source: Edmunds

...It had one owner who kept every record of service and who washed it every Saturday. The car was a dream for about 2 years, then my check engine light came on. I ignored it and it would go away and come back. One hot day in August my car overheated and I had to pull over on the highway. My radiator had cracked. We had it replaced but still had problems with the check engine light. Then in 2010 my air conditioning only worked if the car was in motion, otherwise it would shudder. This summer (2011) my car frequently overheated if I wasn't in motion. Even with all of these problems I still was...

..."I am 63 yrs old. I have owned 4 earlier sports cars, from a 35 whopping HP Fiat 850 spider to an XKE Jag.
I love this car. It is peppy with 140 HP and corners very well. I have found no defects or problems."...

Love my Miata
Source: Edmunds

...Last weekend we went to Panama City Beach in my Miata with our dog.
It was great. Loved not putting my money in the gas tank.
We have a Navigator that we use to travel in, it cost over $100.00 to fill it up now.
Only about $42.00 to fill up the Miata and can go over 340 miles on one tank. What more could I ask for from an 11 year old car with 48,000 when I bought it...

Miata MX5
Source: MSN Autos

...Pros: I used two Miata's to travel all over the state traveling 4 to 7 k miles each month.
Never left me stranded, very reliable, cost to repair and maintain was very reasonable.
One of the most fun cars to drive I have ever had.
I wish I put the turbo in when I first got it but I probably would have had some tickets.
Very sturdy in an accident too. Cons: Steering wheel does not adjust, seats adjustments are limited.
Noisy with the top down (Haha). Wish it came with a factory turbo. 16 or 17 inch wheels would be a plus too. Overall: This is my second Miata, I am...

Why should I also consider these?

There are essentially no other lightweight, relatively low-power roadsters left on the market, at least not in traditional front-engine, rear-drive layout.

The 2012 MINI Cooper Convertible offers somewhat similar performance, and is even more powerful in turbocharged form, however.

Nissan's 370Z is almost into grand touring size and performance, without the light, nimble feel of the MX-5, but with much more power and speed.

Porsche's Boxster is an excellent performer, and even better on the odd track day, but will cost about twice as much as the MX-5.

2012 Nissan 370Z
Performance per dollar, the 2012 Nissan 370Z is a bargain, and it's quick enough in absolute terms to reach toward the domain of much more expensive sports cars.

2012 Porsche Boxster
Stylish, fun, and capable, the 2012 Porsche Boxster is one of the best roadsters around.

2012 MINI Cooper Convertible
Part hatchback, part convertible, and all fun, the 2012 MINI Cooper Convertible is in a class by itself--literally.
