The BIG LEMON

...The sunroof cannot be closed when you attempt to close the front two windows. When all three are closing, the sunroof stops and reopens. There is a windnoise coming from the dash area adn Chrysler does not know how to fix it. We are currently in a lawsuit trying to get them to repurchase our vehicle. Chrysler actually expects us to pay them money to have the vehicle repurchased. Our vehicle is a 2007. Overall: I would advise anyone thinking about buying one of the vheicle's to go buy something else. We have had nothing but problems with this vehicle and will NEVER own another Chrysler product...

Off-Roader

...The commander is an excellent vehicle. Right away I was able to test it on snowy roads and it performed well.
I have taken it off-road on a trail that I would never have gone in any other vehicle that I have owned.
The problems that I have are with hthe braking system and the engine fan.
Certain quality issues are problematic as well, arm rests are bubbling and the chrome trim is letting loose.
Vehicle performs well when pressed and is comfortable to drive, very comfortable and a fun vehicle to own...

Loyal Jeep Owner Bought a Chevy
Source: Cars.com

...I had to fight with the dealership to warranty it. Then in 2009, the entire a/c went out. I live in the south and had an infant, so I had no choice but to have it fixed. The local dealer quoted me $1,500. They said Chrysler would not help in any way. A few months later I spent $380 on a new alternator and battery. Four moths after that incident, I was driving home with my infant son and the car began to overheat. I had to pull over on the side of the road, get a ride and have the vehicle towed. The water pump had gone out and the dealership charged me $550 to replace it. This happened a few...

Why should I also consider these?

It's important to note that none of these competitors can match the 2009 Jeep Commander once the road ends—the Commander maintains the advantage here, though the 4Runner and Pathfinder can be equipped quite well for off-roading.

Some of these competitors, however, do offer varying degrees of niceties such as extra room and/or comfort for rear-seat passengers.

The Ford Explorer is one of the roomiest in the class with ample space even way in back.

The Honda Pilot offers seating for eight, outdoing the Commander by one, and has crisp handling and great ride quality.

The Nissan Pathfinder's second row is comfortable, but its very tight third row is similar to the Commander's.

2009 Honda Pilot
The 2009 Honda Pilot looks more SUV-like in its second edition, but it has the room of a minivan, along with some notable styling miscues and expensive choices to make from the options list.

2008 Ford Explorer
As the perennial best-selling truck-based SUV, the Ford Explorer is still the one to beat.

2008 Nissan Pathfinder
If you tow and off-road with the family, the 2008 Nissan Pathfinder is one of the better traditional truck-based SUVs available.

2008 Toyota 4Runner
The 2008 Toyota 4Runner isn’t as roomy or as efficient as newer crossover designs, but if you need towing or off-road capabilities, it’s a good, safe choice.
