Worst Buy EverSource: CarGurus...turned roaders 2 times and replaced them 2 times, break fluid has had to be completely refilled 4 times( 3 of them in past 6 mts). I have had it in the shop for burning something (coolant I was told) out the exhaust and was told by the first Ford Garage that it was leaking coolant into the #4 cylinder. This garage was not able to do the work on the car, so I had to take it to a different Ford Garage who then told me that nothing was wrong with the car. It was smoking all the way to the garage, but when we picked it up it had quit. They garage said they did not do anything to it. The car was... |

Great Family RideSource: MSN Autos...It's a mix of all of those worlds! The interior is extremely comfortable, roomy, and our leather seats are great quality. I love to drive it, I feel like I have more control than I did in my Expedition. We have 3 kids and have never felt cramped on a long driving vacation, which we do often to visit family. We installed a DVD system and now the package is complete! We get around 19 mpg in town and 24-26 on the road. Cons: The comments I get that I drive a station wagon, lol. Overall: Definitely a great buy! Would do it again and plan to have mine for a LONG time... |

ProblemsSource: Cars.com...The Taurus X has a lot of transmission problems starting to show up. At 90k ours went out. Never used a trailer or heavy cargo just lots of highway miles. New ford transmission is $4,300 plus install. Found a used one with install for 2k. Had back for service again and Transmission shop said they had 2 more since replacing ours. Buy the extended warrenty with Fords very limited warrenty you will spend big bucks on this car. The stearing pump is starting to go also. A mechanic says problems are known and he is already telling us what to look out for."... |

The Modern Mom's SuperwagonSource: CarGurus...but also opens the rear hatch at the push of the key fob, my doors open automatically, security, everything, and great moonroof, best of all, great tax credit because I chose a model with E-85...I also have rheumatoid arthritis so I did not want a gigantic SUV to get in and out of, but I wanted the length and size of an SUV without the price of gas of an SUV...Overall my Ford Taurus X is the best in my opinion the "Mommy Superwagon" car I've ever owned compared to the 2-door hatchback of Mercedes Kompressor that I had before my daughter had feet to walk on...lolol... |
The slow-selling Chrysler Pacifica, which has been discontinued after this model year, has been the Taurus X's closest rival, though the Pacifica has slower acceleration and doesn't handle any better than the 2008 Ford Taurus X; it's also won top crash-test results across the board.
At the back, the Taurus X's third row is roomier, with easier access.
The Outlook is one of a group of new GM crossovers that includes the Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia; it performs well and has a more refined ride than the Taurus X, though it feels smaller inside than the Pacifica and Taurus X, and its third row is tight.
The same goes for the Honda Pilot, which is also rated well for safety and has a tight third row of seating.
Some may find the Pilot's faux-rugged, boxy appearance alluring.
