Ford is still the same poor qualitySource: Edmunds...about it when i bought it new in June 09 but...At 6000 miles while taking my son to tour a college i was on an incline and the tranny slipped. When i returned home i took it to the dealer and they reprogrammed the tranny.Seemed fine for a while but started slipping again. At 19000 the dealership found a leak from the half shaft and burned out clutches. At 25500 miles the tranny had to be rebuilt when at 70mph it went out of gear while on vacation and would not engage.Had no power. When they hooked it to the computer there were no error codes even though the clutches burned out again.It's... |

Great Car - Love it!!Source: Cars.com...I made sure to check car fax and purchased an extended warranty for peace of mind. The Fusion is also a sharp looking car. We just came back from a 7 hour return road trip from Boston and it was very comfortable. The seats gave great support and made the long drive pleasurable. I have had the car 5 months so far and only paid for routine maintenance. I would recommend this car and would definitely buy another Fusion. The 2010 hybrid model will be my next used car, but I will wait a few years to see if receives a high rating and positive reviews."... |

First ImpressionSource: CarGurus...So far, the best observed mileage has been 32.84 MPG, but as of the end of the first year, it is up to 35.34. The overall average is 24.7. Worst observed has been 15.76 (the weather was -40). The ride is great, and road noise is minimal. Ford has done a great job at improving this car with this model year. The six-speed manual adds a great fun factor, and the car does not want for power. It handles wonderfully deep snow. The traction control allows the driver to control traction a little before it reacts to wheel/tire spin. The roll stability control corrects any skidding or sideways motion... |

Optional all-wheel drive, SYNC, and Sirius Travel Link separate the nonhybrid Fusion from most of these competitors.
If you favor ride quality over everything else, pick the Camry.
But be aware of the quality of inside the Camry: Toyota has skimped on the quality and look of many interior bits and pieces, so it is no longer the nicest interior in the class.
The sportier personality of the Accord more closely mirrors the 2010 Fusion, but so does the all-new Mazda6, a perennial favorite of TheCarConnection.com, and the Mazda should be considered for those who appreciate more of a performance feel; the new version is considerably more refined without giving up its sporty edge.
Nissan's Altima is another good choice.
The excellent 2009 Chevrolet Malibu and Saturn Aura also face off against the 2010 Ford Fusion.
The Malibu is our pick of the two; it's larger and delivers premium exterior style, plus a rich-looking interior.
The Aura, Malibu, Camry, and Altima are also offered in hybrid versions, each with similar-sized four-cylinder engines, although not all hybrid systems are the same.
General Motors uses a mild-hybrid system in its Aura and Malibu hybrids—they can't start up from a traffic light on electric power alone.
Both are well equipped, handle nicely, and boast excellent quality.
Some may like the Malibu's all-new style and larger interior, but neither of these mild hybrids can match the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid in fuel economy.
The Fusion exceeds this pair by 13 mpg city and 3 mpg highway, although the step up in cost is less for the GM models.
The Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima are full hybrids that get better mileage than GM's mild hybrids but still trail the Fusion Hybrid.
The step up in cost from the GM mild hybrids to the full hybrids is significant (about $3,000 versus $1,500 for the GMs).
