A Great Little CarSource: MSN Autos...I bought the Caliber used and not only was Stallings motors in Cairo, GA the best dealer I have ever dealt with, the car is fantastic. It has a great turning radius, excellent braking system and for a 4 cylinder good speed pickup. I love all the features which used to come on much more expensive cars, such as downloading my cell phone contact list, etc. The music system is great too and I plug my Ipod in most of the time. The gas mileage is also great. Cons: There is a blind spot on both rear sides which can cause you to not see a passing vehicle for a split second and makes it a little... |

Not bad, not bad at all.Source: MSN Autos...Put the rear seat down and there's more than enough room for my gear and dogs. Cons: Depending on the pavement the car can get a little noisy but it's far from offensive... it's just there. If anything I could find fault with is the somewhat poor selection of tires to fit the factory rims. The only thing I'll add to the car is cruise control... Overall: Regardless of your age (I'm in my fifties) the car serves its purpose not only in the city but on the highway as well. So much so, I parked my diesel pickup and do all my short hops, errands and so far, three trips well over one thousand miles... |

LAAAMEESource: MSN Autos...Noisy at highway speeds, buzzy underpowered engine. NO power to speak of, even with your foot smashed into the floor merging is still a chore. Awkward blind spot on both sides of the car behind the door pillars. Dodge can't seem to get this right EVER...I've driven Neons and Intrepids with the exact same problem. Hills on cruise control caused the car to downshift abruptly to ~ 4000 rpms which just makes a lot of noise. Overall: I drove one of these as a rental car from Atlanta to Raleigh. I was VERY glad to drop it off at the rental agency. Do America a favor, don't buy a Dodge... |

Fantastic small carSource: MSN Autos...and even before it wasn't bad. I have yet to have any type of mechanical issue with it and just hit 50,000 miles. In one year it saved me approx. $2000 on gasoline. Me previoius vehicle was a caddy seville which sucked gas and required premium only. I would definitly recommend the awd model the cvt tranny's direct power causes some slippage in snow and acceleration difficult. Luckily my winter vehicle is a disco, I do not think this car would do well in deep snow. Overall suprisingly I have been very pleased I honestly didnt think i would like a small car but the caliber has changed my mind... |

If you're looking for an economical hatchback, the Nissan Versa and Kia Spectra5 should also be on the shopping list.
The Versa in particular is very roomy inside, yet costs a bit less—at least in terms of sticker price—than the Caliber.
The Spectra5 is more fun to drive than the Caliber, and either of these vehicles is more refined than the Dodge.
The Vibe and Matrix are mechanically identical to each other; between the two, we like the styling of the Vibe a bit more.
Most of this field fails to achieve top marks in safety across the board, though you might also consider the slightly smaller and more expensive Honda Fit; it's surprisingly roomy inside.
