chevrolet's giant leap in the hybrid worldSource: Cars.com...A very sharp, extended headlights give the car a very masculine feeling. The trunk has a capacity of 500 lit. . The Volt sports a 1.4L- 4 cylinder engine and a 111 KW electric motor. The best thing that excited me( and may as well excite you guys too !!!)was the plush interiors. The car is very good in handling, given that it has power steering, though i feel it could be a bit better. The car has quiet adequate cubbyhole. The brakes support ABS along with EBS.So lastly, I feel that Chevrolet Volt is truly a "car of the future". But I think that it is priced a bit expensive at 58,000 USD. Well... |

Should work for many of usSource: Cars.com...We charged it up, off our free 220V Coulomb charge point, since it was delivered to the house, and did a 31 mile drive down the delta from Sacramento. Upon our return we still had 6 miles of EV range left. I am impressed with the solid ride and firm handling, compared to our previous 2007 Camry Hybrid (and 2006 Prius). Our LEAF should arrive early next month. Both cars will charge from the same chargepoint and with our home's solar panel array, we will now have ZERO house electricity cost AND virtually ZERO transportation costs (since both of our work commutes are less than 11 miles one way... |

The 2011 Nissan Leaf, which goes on sale on a limited basis about the same time as the Volt, is an all-electric car, with a range of about 100 miles.
Simpler in purpose—and more than $10k cheaper than the Volt—the Leaf has no fuel tank, no tailpipe, and no conventional gasoline engine, so it's a greener solution if your daily driving is in the 40-90-mile range.
The Tesla Roadster is also an all-electric vehicle, but this little two-seater is a cartoonish exaggeration of what an EV can be—an EV exotic of sorts—capable of zero to 60 in less than four seconds.
And of course the Toyota Prius, ceremonial king of green cars, bears some contrast; Toyota is preparing a plug-in version of the Prius, but its all-electric capability will remain for low-speed operation only and its range will be very limited—less than 15 miles, typically.
The Lexus HS 250h is another alternative; but at nearly twice the price of a Prius, it appeals to the luxury set.
Unfortunately it neither has the mileage of the Prius nor its nimble driving demeanor.
