A Walk Off GRAND SLAM

...I was shopping for a new small SUV and the dealer i went to is a Toyota/ Chevy Dealer I went in search of a Rav 4 and had not even considered the Equinox or any chevy for that matter.
The salesman told to look at this Equinox and keep an opened mind. And Am sure glad he showed me this. It far exceeds my expectations and spanks both the CR-V and Rav-4...

...Pros: Overall we're quite happy with the Equinox, especially the interior comfort and functions.
The performance is very respectable for a 4 cylinder engine.
As mentioned in other reviews here, the lack of a rear reading lamp is unfortunate, but hey I'm the driver what do I care :-) Cons: The fuel economy is a huge disappointment.
After 14k miles (95% highway) the vehicle averages a paltry 22 mpg.
Because of that, we are planning on selling this car.
Overall: The style and comfort of this vehicle are respectable, but the fuel economy for a 4 cylinder engine is...

..."I purchased the vehicle used this winter. I love the way it drives and handles.
It has all of the bell & whistles. Biggest Pro: interior space, the back seat adjust fwd & aft to allow you to utilize unused cargo area for leg room.
With the seat all the way back, you can play racketball in the back seat. Biggest Con: cup holders in the front seat. I love this vehicle."...

..."Lots about this suv we liked but it was in the shop way too much.
The dealer replaced everything from cam gear to water pump and timing chain, still couldn't get it to run smooth and quiet.
The transmission always seemed a little funky too, dead spots and rough shifting. Did get great MPG though, 20 in town 25-32 hwy depending on the speed."...

Excellent vehicle.. questionable mileage
Source: Edmunds

...The vehicle has been an excellent purchase. I have had mine for 15 months now and enjoy its comfortable ride.
Previously, we had both a Dodge caravan and Nissan Altima.
We needed a vehicle that could store more than the Altima and get better gas mileage than the Caravan.
Of the many models I researched in this range, the Equinox had the features and qualities we liked the most for our needs.
The only complaint we have was the slightly exaggerated MPG rating where it advertised up to 600 miles on a single tank.
I have not gotten above 475 miles on a 18.8 gallon tank...

very bad gas milage
Source: Edmunds

...i get the same mpg on straight highway as i do in town.
22 miles per gallon either way. Wish i had not bought it, dealer said nothing they can do since no code is coming up.
has 20k and not a thing i can do except lose money by trading it off. any adeas from anyone...

Why should I also consider these?

The 2010 Chevrolet Equinox competes against some of the strongest-selling crossover vehicles on the market.

In size and mission, it’s a lot like the Ford Escape, which also offers four- and six-cylinder engines, as well as a Hybrid version.

The Escape gets worse gas mileage and feels less substantial in some ways, but it’s a safe bargain.

The Honda CR-V is another best-seller with tried and true benefits like reliability and pert handling, though its sole engine is a four-cylinder that strains a little to perform.

The latest Subaru Forester is rounder in shape and wider in reach; it’s won some big awards and rightly so.

Its nimble performance is now equaled by a soft exterior and a high-quality interior, though it still falls behind in features.

2009 Ford Escape
Though it looks decidedly old-school, the Ford Escape is a solid and stylish five-passenger, compact SUV that has been kept up-to-date.

2009 Subaru Forester
It’s significantly improved this year, but the 2009 Subaru Forester remains a unique all-wheel-drive crossover with less power and fewer features, but better carlike handling, than its competition.

2008 Honda CR-V
The 2008 Honda CR-V doesn't have hip style or performance on tap, but it has the security, utility, and frugality that many sensible moms want.
