Best car I ever drove (so far)Source: Edmunds
...Note: I own a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country, 1991 Patherfinder, 1993 Ford Escort and there are no comparisons to any of them. |

Too Much FunSource: Edmunds...If you can't feel much of a difference between the two cars, get the 535. I felt the difference immediately that is why I went with the 550. It feels very close in over-all performance to the 2001 M5 that I used to have. My wife had a different point of view but I used the Jedi mind trick on her value focused mind. She was happy enough with the 535 sport. I would agree that the 535 sport is 95% as good as the 550 sport for about 10% less money. I just happen to be one of those people who enjoy driving in that extra 5% zone and don't mind paying a little more for it... |

10 yearsSource: Edmunds
...This is my 3rd BMW, and although I now know they start to need some attention at about 10 years old, the engine if taken care of will perform forever. |

2008 BMW 535i SportSource: Edmunds...Handling is superb and 4 wheel drifts are doable with the "Anti-s" disabled. I averaged 20.7 MPG combined city/hwy. Sport mode and paddle shifters are a hoot. If it weren't for repair issues, I would love this car. Hi-pressure fuel valve went out 2x in 3 months. Unacceptable for car in this price range. Cheap materials in sunshades (no extender), cupholders are crap. Reverse light burned out at 33K miles. Turbo lag is noticeable at take off and throttle is 'twitchy' at take off. I want more time driving, not in shop, even w/warranty... |

The Red Rocket IISource: MSN Autos...Brakes are barely adequate for the engine size and weight of the car. Handles like your basic naval destroyer. Not for canyon thrashing or road courses. Back seat is fine for luggage or the dog. Engine runs hot in traffic. Overall: Not a bad car. Stay on top of that internal timing belt. It's amazing to consider what Chevy could have done if they really put their mind to it. Will I buy another one? Nope. Probably go back to German built vehichles for the handling characteristics and better brakes. Would I recommend one for someone looking to spend under 10 grand for a used American car? You... |

The chief competitor to the 2010 BMW 5-Series's sedan is the Mercedes E-Class, and the Audi A6 Avant is the Sports Wagon's closest rival.
The E-Class has more of an emphasis on comfort than the 5, with a roomier-feeling interior and a softer ride.
The Avant only comes with the 255-horsepower, 3.2-liter V-6 engine, not the larger, 350-horsepower V-8 available on the sedan.
As with the Sports Wagon, all-wheel drive is standard, though the Avant has a slightly softer ride, and its handling isn't as sharp as that of the 5-Series, nor does it offer such advanced technology features.
The Cadillac STS brings plenty of high-tech options and respectable performance, but it doesn't have the prestige of the 5-Series.
The Saab 9-5 SportCombi is now a quite dated design.
It comes with front-wheel drive and turbocharged four-cylinder power, and its powertrains aren't as refined as those of the other rivals, but it's packaged well, with excellent seats, plenty of headroom, and more useful cargo space.
There's also the Infiniti M35 and M45, which bring brisk performance and some rival high-tech features such as a lane-departure system, but their cabins aren't as quiet and refined as those of the 5-Series models.
