I think I got lucky
Source: Cars.com

...I test drove several new and used 5 series but at the end of the day I wanted more of the e38. There are a few issues with this model that you must address to ensure trouble free operation. Common parts that you will replace are bushings, hoses, radiator, ball joints and struts. These things are considered standard maintenance that will ensure long life and performance. You can improve and/or customize the e38 to suit your style as there are many aftermarket parts available. If you find a nice one you will be rewarded with an excellent driving machine. Very happy and highly recommended."...

Great Looking Car
Source: MSN Autos

...Pros: Had this car 3 weeks today. Really enjoy driving this car.
It handles great. I had a 2007 BMW 5 series that I traded in for this car.
To me this car is alot like the BMW 5 series without the price of the BMW.
No regets so far. I looked at alot of cars for serveral months before making my purchase and I kept coming back to the Infiniti. Cons: No complaints Overall: Happy with my purchase...

The best 5 series BMW has made
Source: Cars.com

..."I ordered my 525iT and am thrilled I waited for it.
It's been completely trouble free in nearly eight years,
rides like new, handles like new, brakes like new, has classic lines, feels like a tank, has exquisite craftsmanship, and is just a delight to drive each and every time."...

Sweeetttt !!!

..."I recently bought a 2001 530i with Sport pkg. and have never looked back.
This car does everything just right - goes like heck, stops on a dime, and everything in between.
It does it all so perfectly you just can't explain it. You have to drive one to experience the difference."...

Great Fun!
Source: Cars.com

...The older models of the 5 series have great styling and still have great performance. Bothe my 540i's had abut 100,000 miles on them and still held their looks and funstionality. Everything still works. I like the rear window sun screen and the rain sensor wipers (on my 2000). The 6-speed manual transmissions were in good shape and felt better aftr a lube job. The 4.4 liter v-8 in these cars is notorious for oil leaks. Both of mine needed head cover and timing cover gasket work. I have done all the engine work on my 1999 myself (with the help of a good brother-inlaw and good service manuals)...

Sets a Standard That Is Hard to Follow
Source: Cars.com

..."Have owned many performance cars over the years but after my first BMW I found it very difficult to drive other makes and brands.
Nothing equals the handling and feeling of connection with the road,
also have never driven another vehicle that is so stable in high winds, torrential rains, it digs in and goes no matter what the weather.
Just brought home my 3rd Bimmer wagon, an 2010 535i, previously drove a 2007 530xi and before that a 2000 528it, all wagons, all great cars.
Can't think of another car that makes me look forward with anticipation to each time I get behind...

State of the art performance and handling
Source: Cars.com

..."The BMW 540 is one of the most exciting cars to drive -- it features head snapping accelleration and superior handling.
I own the 540iT wagon and this hauler hauls! I have even taken it on the track and turned in respectible times.
It is also a great grand touring car -- we have put in 13 hour driving days without feeling overly fatigued. It is quiet when cruising but offers that wonderful V8 growl when pushed...

Why should I also consider these?

The chief competitor to the 2010 BMW 5-Series's sedan is the Mercedes E-Class, and the Audi A6 Avant is the Sports Wagon's closest rival.

The E-Class has more of an emphasis on comfort than the 5, with a roomier-feeling interior and a softer ride.

The Avant only comes with the 255-horsepower, 3.2-liter V-6 engine, not the larger, 350-horsepower V-8 available on the sedan.

As with the Sports Wagon, all-wheel drive is standard, though the Avant has a slightly softer ride, and its handling isn't as sharp as that of the 5-Series, nor does it offer such advanced technology features.

The Cadillac STS brings plenty of high-tech options and respectable performance, but it doesn't have the prestige of the 5-Series.

The Saab 9-5 SportCombi is now a quite dated design.

It comes with front-wheel drive and turbocharged four-cylinder power, and its powertrains aren't as refined as those of the other rivals, but it's packaged well, with excellent seats, plenty of headroom, and more useful cargo space.

There's also the Infiniti M35 and M45, which bring brisk performance and some rival high-tech features such as a lane-departure system, but their cabins aren't as quiet and refined as those of the 5-Series models.

2008 Audi A6
The 2008 Audi A6 has plenty of competition, but its graceful look and feel set it apart from more brutal German and more clinical Japanese iron.

2009 Cadillac STS
The 2009 Cadillac STS isn’t a standout for looks, but you’ll appreciate the way it drives.

2009 Saab 9-5
If you don’t mind buying a 2009 Saab 9-5 that looks almost exactly like the 1999 model, there’s still a lot of quirky appeal.

2011 Infiniti M
The 2011 Infiniti M pairs beauty with a beastly V-8 engine—and at last, Infiniti makes its marque in a class full of winners.
