cash succubusSource: Cars.com...AND LOVED ITAUDI A8 #2 bought nearly new, but after about 5ok this car got very expensiveTrunk hinges/motors failed at nearly $800 (redesigned twice since 2005) - thermostat part is $60 but almost $900 with labor because you need to take half the engine out to get access. Tire pressure sensor batteries have 5 year life and $1200 repair cost. Oxygen sensors cost $1000, control arms for $2500, and 75K major service recommends replacing timing belt and water pump for about $2600. Cup holder, 2 arm rests, 2 cigarette lighters/phone chargers, handle to open hood, all broken in ordinary use.BASED... |

A mechanical nightmareSource: Cars.com...It was a smooth as silk and at first a lovely car. Within the next 40k miles over 2.5 years, it has needed a new engine management system, a new fuel pump (apparently vulnerable), brake sensors, and a reconditioned gear box (apparently vulnerable on the 4.2 quattro and generally not Audi's forte). It is currently in the garage with another fuel pump problem. Additionally, there appear to be few independent Audi garages around who are confident of tackling such a big car. The main dealer prices for parts and labor are eye watering. A car for those with courage and deep pockets."... |

With a base price of about $75,000 and a top price well over $100,000, the new Audi A8 competes with the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and will have the 2011 Jaguar XJ and Lexus LS also in its sights.
Fresh from a 2010 update, the Benz S-Class spans the range of powertrains from S400 Hybrid to twin-turbo S65 AMG.
It's also the foundation for the Maybach sedans.
The BMW 7-Series was new for 2009, and since then has added six-cylinder models, an ActiveHybrid gas-electric version, and a V-12 edition, all working perfectly with its de-Bangled style and its improved iDrive controller.
The 2011 Jaguar XJ / XJL has been dramatically reworked, with a body more like the smaller XF than the dowdy aluminum panels worn by the previous version.
And finally, the Lexus LS range spans short-wheelbase Sport models to long-wheelbase hybrid LS 600h L versions, and it's an impossibly smooth vehicle to operate—though even with sport add-ons, it's still the least engaging of these sedans to drive.
