Two unlikely partners in engine development, BMW and the PSA group, which comprises Peugeot and Citroen, have been so pleased with their current agreement they’re planning to expand it. The companies will complete a study to examine the technological, production, and financial benefits of developing more engines together and if both parties are happy, move ahead with the development of a new range of four-cylinder engines that are expected to be around 2.0L in size.
The current co-operation between PSA and BMW covers the development and production of a range of 1.4L and 1.6L engines using variable valve lift and direct injection. Performance from the engines ranges from 55KW (75HP) up to 128KW (175HP). The engines are used in the new-generation MINI and vehicles of Peugeot and Citroën.
Having BMW as partner in anything that has to do with engines is usually a good thing.
