The GTS develops 20hp more from the same engine from the Cayenne S, pumping out 405hp at 6,500rpm and torque at a flat 500Nm from 3.500rpm. Surprisingly, Porsche has stuck a manual gearbox on this model with a shorter ratio than the Cayenne S, allowing it to hit 100km/h in just 6.1s.
On the outside, the Cayenne GTS is fitted the same bodykit as the more expensive Cayenne Turbo and 21in wheels with 295/35 R21 tires. Two new colors have also been reserved exclusively for the GTS: GTS Red and Nordic Gold Metallic. Deliveries begin in February 2008 and it will be priced at approximately €65,000 or US$70,000.

With the new Cayenne GTS, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, is reiterating the successful Cayenne series’ prominence in the sporty SUV segment. The model, which celebrates its world debut at the IAA in Frankfurt, features an enhanced 4.8-liter V8, has been lowered by 24 millimeters and has a specially developed chassis: it is the first Cayenne to feature the electronically controlled damping system, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), with steel springs. This combination was previously reserved exclusively for Porsche sports cars.
The 4.8-liter engine with direct gasoline fuel injection (DFI) in the Cayenne GTS yields 405bhp (298 kW) at 6,500 revolutions per minute – 20bhp more than in the Cayenne S. Maximum torque remains unchanged at 500Nm at 3,500 revolutions per minute.
This, the sportiest of Porsche SUVs, comes as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox and a shorter axle drive ratio than the Cayenne S (4.1:1 as opposed to 3.55:1). The Cayenne GTS can thus accelerate from zero to 100km/h in just 6.1 seconds, precisely 0.5 seconds quicker than the Cayenne S.
The Cayenne GTS is fitted with Porsche Traction Management (PTM) permanent all-wheel drive and the adaptive PASM chassis as standard. As well as optional air suspension, the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) active anti-roll system is available to enhance handling and ride comfort. Newly developed 12-way sports seats and a leather-Alcantara mix emphasize the sporty interior.
The new Cayenne GTS is instantly recognizable: the front and rear look the same as the Cayenne Turbo, and the striking 14mm wheel-arch enlargements offer plenty of space for the standard 21-inch alloy rims with 295/35 R21 tires. Two new colors have also been reserved exclusively for the GTS: GTS Red and Nordic Gold Metallic.
The new Cayenne model with Tiptronic S transmission has an average consumption of 13.9 liters/100 km in accordance with EU standards. Global dispatch will start in February 2008. In Germany it will cost 76,725 Euros including 19 percent VAT and country-specific requirements; the base price is 64,300 Euros. The base price for the USA (MSRP USA) is US $69,300.

Bwahahahaha. A souped up Cayenne S is easily the fasted SUV on the planet and the sportiest of the Cayenne line-up? Whoever wrote this article should be moved back to the mailroom since they obviously know nothing about vehicles and don't bother to research the vehicle they are writing about.

Meatwad, I think it's obvious the author was refering to the Turbo model and not the new GTS and Bob, you must be American becuase there's more to a fast car than just straight line speed. I'd like to see the SRT8 keep up with the Cayenne Turbo around a track.

It is now obvious since the author revised the article and added "Turbo" in the first sentence.
However, this little snippet still remains in the 3rd paragraph from the second section:
"This, the sportiest of Porsche SUVs,". I guess it's sportier because it has a manual? You can throw a manual at a base Impreza and that doesn't make it more sporty than an STi with an automatic (if such a combo was offered....of course, this is just a random example).

Lower ride height, better suspension, manual transmission, and bigger tires all combine to make it more involving than the normal Cayenne. At no point do I claim the manual transmission is the only reason this model is more sporty.

How is this model the sportiest of the Porsche SUVs? The Turbo & Turbo S models both have a lowered ride height, better suspension and bigger tires. That leaves the manual transmission being the only defining factor.

Well, considering the Cayanne Turbo (as tested in Raod and Track Nov 2006) had the same speed thru the 700 ft slalom as the Grand Cherokee and 0.02 less g's in lateral acceleration on the 200 ft skidpad Julis and Jeezas are quite misinformed.
Also, the Jeep outperformed the Cayanne Turbo in 0-60 (4.6 sec vs 5.3 sec) and the 1/4 mile(13.2 at 104.1 mph vs 13.9 at 101.2 mph)
The author once again needs to update the article to read Cayanne Turbo "S" for this article to be even remotely true.

Please explain and list, in detail, the source for your claim of "Fastest SUV on the planet" when the Jeep SRT8 will go from 0 to 60 in 4 seconds and do a 1/4 mile in 13.5 or less.... As far as the "around a track" claim, the SRT8 has a lowered ride height, Bilstein Suspension, huge front and rear sway bars, front strut tower brace, massive 20X9 up front, 20X10 rear 285 tires....all for $50,000 LESS....
I'm sure the Porsche is a luxiours sport ute, but your first statement is extrememly narrow minded and is flat out wrong. Please do some research into your topics before blinding posting something and making claims you can't substantiate.
