Bugatti’s engineers have managed to make a car powered by a quad-turbo, W16 engine, and capable of accelerating to 60mpg in just 2.5 seconds as easy to drive as a humble VW Golf. Speaking with UAE’s Business24-7, Bugatti official Julius Kruta told reporters that the Veyron is only the beginning. In fact, Kruta confirmed that Bugatti will eventually build a second hyper-model. “Even though it is not economically viable for us, we will do it again. We have bigger plans for the future and the next one from our stables will be even more expensive than the Veyron,” Kruta revealed.
Late last year reports emerged claiming Bugatti might add a second model to its lineup but until now there was no official mention of such a car. Some have suggested that Bugatti’s next car will be a high-end saloon while others claim it will be a new ultra-performance supercar.
Building cars like the Veyron and its eventual successor is not about making money, Kruta explains. “The idea was to make a showcase car to tell the world what the Volkswagen group is capable of doing if the sky is the limit,” he said. “It is a statement car and we are not even meeting the cost of production.”

I wonder what the engine is going to be? 27 liter X-24 quad turbo? Or perhaps a small block nuclear fusion reactor:D
Go ahead, build it!

The thing I never understood was this:
If people line up to buy these far in advance, and then others pay 3x that when they are resold at auction a week later, why doesn't Bugatti just charge what it costs to make the car, and then a little more? It seems that these cars would still sell out of their limited production runs.

gus i agree.,.. the final cost of the veyron was something like 6 million a piece and they *only* charge 1.5 or what ever. its insane. they could easily sell it for 4... maybe even 5.
raptor; I'd be willing to bet that the engine will remain the same but will be reworked. the great thing about this car is its really just two of the passat's w8 engines strapped together and turbo'd. it makes for a great halo car.
I'd like to see them make this car a green car. laugh all you want but that engine is only 33% efficient. yeah... the engine is really a 3000hp engine, but it only puts out 1000hp mechanically. u have 2000hp in heat that easily could be running a steam turbine. You could make a nice luxury yaght with even MORE performance (and much more complexity) by hybridization. If you think i'm insane.. look into co-gen power plants. same idea. ICE's using water cooling to produce second tier electricity from waste heat. hell, might as well have the steam power electric motors.
if this is starting to sound expensive; consider that the development for the engine is already done. thats gotta be a huge amount right there. they've already lost the money on the veyron.

Chris, if i remember correctly, 6 million a piece is the average cost per car including the development cost, not just to make the car itself. I doubt they can sell the entire run of 300 if they charge much more than the current asking price, anyways VW already said that the total loss from the project (i.e. cost of project) is about the same as one season in F1, so i guess it's not such a money lossing project afterall.
As for Bugatti's next model, if they're going to make another supercar, then i hope they can make a lighter one. 1500kg max should be achieveable. They should make a more lightweight sports car, not a overweight cruiser with huge power and awesome speed. In the old days, Ettoire Bugatti himself famously said that Bentley's are fast lorrys, seems such statement isn't far off from Veyron itself. Plus with current "green" movement, making cars lighter should be the way to go.
Alternatively, and personally i find it much more interesting is the idea of high end saloon. A fast and ultra luxrious and ultra exclusive Bugatti saloon is extremely appeaking. Something like the EB218 concept would be fantastic. Although i doubt how big a market is there for such a car

Chris I've heard of the idea of steam turbine before and I have to agree it's very interesting. Wasting 1,5 MW of energy is absurd. Yes, it would add complexity and weight, but you could push efficiency up.
Hell, if they managed to put this brilliant W16 engine together, they can make a steam hybrid:)

Somebody just paid $6,800,000 for a personalized license plate.
Believe me, for the people who buy these types of cars, that ind of money is no big deal, and maybe makes the car even more desireable...

yea, i agree if i had the money i'd pay 5-6 million for it, the people who can "only" afford 1.5 million are too many, triple the price and the exclusivity factor goes up.
mmm whats next, a Bently size car, 4 doors luxury saloon but that can go 200mph+??
how sick would that be, hahaha.

my opinion is that this car and this brand should be the halo project for VW. By bringing in an affordable model would dilute the exclusivity of the brand and although making it profitable as it would be in a price range of a larger demographic it would in turn devalue the marques prestige. This car and its next evolvements should be the pinnacle of road car technology utilising the latest mod-cons from F1 that have yet to filter down to mainstream production cars as well as any luxury items that are new to the genre.
Fingers crossed that they do build a saloon, not the ugly design model from a couple of years ago but a sexier and far more exclusive design than ever conceived previously. I myself could never afford on, and to be honest probably would struggle buying a wheel nut but that is beside the point. Bugatti has become the pinnacle of road cars and should stay there !!

yep, i'm agreeing with what i'm hearing. Theres no reason why they cant build an absolute pinnacle of automotive genius; a 2000 hp (re: steam hybrid), 2 tonne 4 door saloon. make a 6 million dollar coach that you can bring to bonneville.
