Chevrolet today unveiled the Corvette 427 Limited Edition Z06, a limited-production model that pays homage to the big-block Stingray models of the mid-1960s and comes in a unique crystal red exterior paint scheme. The ‘427’ designation refers to the cubic-inch displacement of the familiar Z06 7.0L LS7 small-block V8 but it also is a throwback to the highest-performance V8 engines offered by GM during the 1960s.

In addition to the new coat of paint, the car also features graphics on the hood and fascia that resemble the original ‘stinger’ hood design from the 1967 427 model. Each example is numbered and signed by Wil Cooksey, the Corvette assembly plant manager who is retiring after 15 years on the job, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Further differentiating this model are the unique chrome wheels, color-coded spoilers and door handles and ‘427’ embroidered seats and floor mats.

Production will start in spring and only 427 cars will be offered, at a price of $84,195 a piece. The only option is a satnav system, which costs an extra $1,750. For this price, buyers get a RWD supercar with a 505hp (377kW) V8 and six-speed manual. Featuring a chassis that weighs just 1,437kg, the Z06 will reach 60mph from rest in just 3.7 seconds, run the quarter in 11.7 seconds and circle the Nurburgring in 7m 43s.
