Lamborghini is rumored to be developing a new entry-level model powered by the Audi R8’s 4.2L FSI V8 engine. A suspicious looking Gallardo test-mule has been spotted by spy photographers circling the Nurburgring with a modified exhaust outlet, which suggests that there could be a different engine in the back.

The car in question sports a slightly revised front bumper and is said to run noticeably quieter than the current V10 model. It was also seen testing alongside an Audi RS4, which is powered by the same 420hp V8 engine. Unlike the current Gallardo, the new model is rumored to feature a RWD configuration. Lamborghini has said in the past that they considered AWD to be a unique feature of their cars so the baby Gallardo may yet remain AWD.

Meanwhile, the R8 is thought to be getting the baby Lambo’s V10 engine for a high-performance RS8 version of the Audi-supercoupe. We’ll have to wait and see how it all pans out, but in the meantime, you can check out more photos of the latest Lambo prototype over at World Car Fans.

Lambo may sell a lot of these V8 Gallardo, but it would hurt the V10 Gallardo sales really bad. They have to change the exterior.
Also a V8 model with AWD would be a bit underpowered for this high $$$ market.
