Volkswagen’s long awaited Passat-based four-door coupe has been revealed just hours prior to its official world debut at this week’s Detroit Auto Show. The new model will be called simply the ‘CC’ and although it’s based on the Passat platform it sits 5cm lower and stretches 3cm more than the regular VW sedan.

The Passat CC will come standard in the U.S. with a 2.0 TSI engine with 200hp and 207lb-ft of torque, available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. Available optionally is the flagship 3.6L FSI, rated at 280hp and 266lb-ft of torque. The 3.6L FSI comes standard with the six-speed Tiptronic transmission. Other markets will feature a base 160hp 1.8L TSI model and two diesel variants developing 140 and 170hp respectively.

Newly developed for the CC is an electrically actuated panoramic sunroof. The transparent roof is 29.5 inches long and 44 inches wide, covering the entire front area up to the B pillar. The front of the car is dominated by the new twin-bar sports grille and large air inlets positioned in the front bumper. The rear end of the four-door coupe is marked by large-surface dual taillights, a rear spoiler integrated into the trunk lid and a large rear window that combines with the panoramic glass sunroof.

Thanks. I’ll pass. Am I the only one that just doesn’t understand this *let’s put small windows in sedans and call it a coupe* thing? I know at least one person who would get a full claustrophobic attack inside this car or the MB CLS, not to mention the Hummers or the Dodge Nitro.

I’ll buy a car with proper size windows, thanks.

Very nice. 2.0L TFSI in combination with AWD would be just the right one for me.

These so-called “four-door coupés” should be one segment smaller. Such big cars with so little rear room don’t make sense. A four-door A5 or CLK would be much more reasonable.

Not bad for a VW, but the windows are still too big, it would look more like a coupe with a higher shoulder line!

the reason its called a coupe is it is a four seated car in back you can only sit two people and you have to see the car in person and you will see the windows are small as well.
