While the car was expected to make its world debut last month at the Paris Motor Show, AutoTelegraff reports that its reveal has now been pushed back as far as April next year, with the 2009 Shanghai Motor Show likely to be the place for its unveiling. The main reason for the delay is due to Mercedes reportedly wanting to launch the car together with the S400 BlueHybrid.
Mercedes also plans to launch an array of new technologies in both the facelifted S-Class and the next-generation E-Class range, so delaying the launch of the updated S-Class will ensure the new E will be the first with the technology.
Some of these new features were previewed recently at an event in Leipzig, including driver assistance systems, advanced radar and camera based sensing technology, intelligent situational awareness software, and electronic crumple zones.
As for the new car’s powertrain lineup, most engine options will likely remain the same, but there will be a few new models. In addition to the aforementioned petrol-electric S400, there will be a new 2.1L S250 CDI turbodiesel for Europe, and a 3.5L S350 CGI petrol V6 as well.
The updated car will be recognizable due to a slightly revised grille, which will have fewer slats than the current car, new projectors in the headlamps, LED rear taillights, and circular fog lights integrated into a re-styled front bumper.

what is happening on this car, make the bottom of the grill sharper is that a joke. And the projector fog lamps look like somethin out of some power ranger show. I hope they don't make any sales off of this car.

I like the front end, it's the bangle-butt back end I have a problem with.

I actually have more taste than money so if I could afford a car in this class I'd pick the A8.
But I have one question: Will MB be doing anything to remedy what is - without question - the ugliest and most disgusting interior in a luxury car EVER?

Looks like some of the cues from the F700 concept, not too much but they are there.

Hector, what are you smoking, the S-class sets the standard in this class of vehicle, the A8 and the BMW 7-series are trying to catch up to topple it.

The S Class maybe the most refined and luxurious of the A8, 7Ser, but the A8 is the most subtle and classier. The S Class wreaks nouveau now. The 7 Ser would be my choice though.

the S-class shows power out of people, the A8 shows class and the 7ser shows sportiness. But, the S-class almost excels in every catagory anyone can throw at it. Just come down to ny and 4/5 luxury cars are S-classes

Justin: You just said it all: NYC. Same thing in Miami and likely in LA. So basically we're talking about places where people have a lot more money than taste or class.

Hey, I live in LA and I have no money OR class, so I take issue with that! :)

Still the standard for the class, though I am wondering if MB is throwing a DiesOtto engine in there some day.

You know you probably can't afford an S Class when you walk into the showroom and buy an S250 CDi. Nothing says unsuccesful more than that on the back of a Merc. Even those in a 320/350 will laugh at you.
