First Volvo unveiled a new blind spot warning system, then Mercedes followed suit and launched its own version, and now Jaguar has announced plans for a new blind spot detection system as well. Jaguar will call on vehicle parts supplier Valeo Raytheon to source a new radar-based blind spot detection system for its new XF saloon.
The system continuously monitors the rear blind spots on both sides of the vehicle using radars located behind the rear bumper. When a vehicle is present in either blind spot, the driver is alerted by a visible icon displayed in the side view mirror, reports Automotive News.
The system is claimed by its makers as making roads safer and driving “more comfortable and pleasurable” but we suspect it will also have the unwarranted effect of creating a generation of drivers that are more lazy and unaware of their surroundings.
Don’t forget, Audi introduced this technology first on the 2007 Q7. In 2008 the Audi lane assist has been added and is offered on the A6, A8, and Q7.
