Get busted for reckless driving or street racing in most countries and the worst punishment you’re likely to endure is to foot an expensive fine, possibly do a driver-safety course or lose your license or car for several months. In some areas, such as Manchester in the UK or California, authorities will even crush your car if you continue to bait the law but in Malaysia they’ve taken it one step further and are planning to cane repeat offenders.
Under a new proposal, first time offenders will face a 5,000 ringgit (US$1,597) fine and a maximum five-year jail sentence as well as a three-year suspension, The Star daily reported.
Get caught a second time and the minimum sentence is ten years in the slammer, three strokes of a cane, and a 10,000 ringgit (US$3,178) fine.
According to the source, the major culprits are not car drivers but owners of highly-modified motorbikes known locally as ‘Mat Rempits.’ And it won’t just be the racers that will be penalized. Police plan to also target the organizers of such races as well as frequent visitors.
Malaysia, one of those countries I’ll never visit. Parts of it in the future, parts of it in the stone ages…
In Australia they would get *the boot*
(Warning: disparaging the boot is a bootable offense)
omfg… DAMN YOU HECTOR… I WAS JUST ABOUT TO SAY THAT.
by the way hector; I’m starting to see your integrated brake light/turn light thing. yeah its all over the place. I’m still at a loss as to why it bugs you so much, but I’ve got my own little quirks too.. thats for sure.
Hector doesn’t have quirks, he has issues. But he is a funny dude…
yeah I think that is a better representation of it. in his own words, he’d buy the Fusion if it didnt have integrated lights. if you hate something that small… that much… that you wouldnt buy a car… then sheesh.
I know that when i was looking at a new car, the only options I gave myself besides the 2008 focus (the clear leader in my books) was the mazda 3 sedan, hatch, and the volvo c30. the cobalt SS was also another option. the SS was a little too gimicky for my tastes, and I thought my dad would have a heart attack if i bought a chev.. the C30 was too much money (but GOD did I ever want it), I wouldn’t have forgiven myself for getting the mazda 3 sedan over the hatch, and the hatchback had that funny rear wheel fender flare thing. I just cant stand it. I dont know why but I HATE THAT. the c30 has it too, but the C30 is SO MUCH more car than the 3. the 3 was a cheap hatch, made by ford. in all respects, it was everything I wanted. but it had that damned fender flare. I hate it.
so i got the focus. less power, but more toys, and I can actually look at it.
sorry for the double post, but the point here was I’m not about to rip into hector about it any more. If he’s got a “thing” with it.. then fine… I know I’ve got the same sort of thing…
I love mazdas… they’re cheap, and they’re the best cars around. but styling on them is always a little odd. the 3 hatch has got that rear fender deal. the 6 reminds me too much of the pontiac sunfire. I know its a good car but it looks too…. gimicky. looks like its trying too hard. sounds stupid i know. I HATE the rx, great car, I know, but those front fenders make me want to rip the things off and drive it around like an open wheeled dune buggy. The Cx7 has got the same thing going.. which sucks cause I’d rather the smaller turbo’ed engine over the 3.5L v6 but i’d end up getting the Edge anyways.
its always like that. i like the ford styling over mazdas styling, enough to get products that are mechanically inferior. it just means that much to me.
