Updated with new renderings.

Volkswagen’s updated Polo hatch is due to bow in towards the end of the year as a 2009 model and will initially be launched in both three and five-door hatch variants. Next year, VW is tipped to expand the Polo range by introducing a new entry-level cabrio, long-wheelbase MPV and a possible SUV model or ‘Cross Polo’.

As these latest renderings suggest, the new Polo will feature a more chiseled look that’s also expected to feature on the next-generation Mark VI Golf. The cars will be bigger overall than current models and are designed to compete with the recently updated Ford Fiesta and Honda Fit.

The next-gen Polo will also get VW’s new low-cost six-seed DSG and when combined with an efficient BlueMotion turbodiesel should deliver a mileage figure in excess of 60mpg. New to the model family will be a mild hybrid option with regenerative braking technology and electronically controlled components. Carrying over from the current lineup will be a performance GTI model, possibly featuring VW’s brilliant 125kW 1.4L TSI engine.

Could you please give me an indication of the price of the Polo 4 door and hatch version, including Radio and on board computer. When will they come onto the market in SA. Will there be a sedan version with a boot? The car looks very nice.
