The Fiat 500 minicar only made its debut this month but there’s already talk of additional variants being developed including a new long wheelbase ‘Giardinetta’ version similar to Mini’s new Clubman. Already confirmed for production are the cabriolet soft-top and performance Abarth versions due by the middle of next year, but Fiat execs are mulling plans for both a three door station wagon and a 4WD SUV.
This new rendering is a good indication as to what the wagon variant could look like and is based on a preview of the car that was shown on a video at the launching of the new 500 in Turin earlier this month. One executive at the event revealed that a final decision on the new variants would be made by the end of the year.
Engine options will likely remain the same as the shorter version, which means the new 70hp 1.2L and 100hp 1.4L petrol engines and the ultra-efficient 75hp 1.3L Multijet diesel will carry over. Inside, there’ll be seating available for four plus flexible storage solutions.
It’s called GIARDINERA and not giardinetta!
Fiat is yet to confirm what the new model will be called. According to our sources, including the artist of this rendering, the new wagon 500 will be called the Giardinetta.
