Over the weekend reports emerged detailing the new models set to revitalize the Lancia brand, and now the first of these new cars has been revealed with the release of these latest official images. The new car is the legendary Lanica Delta hatch and it’s set to make its world debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show.

The five-door hatchback is based on the Fiat Bravo but it gets its own distinctive styling as well as a more upmarket interior. Some of the optional high-end features customers can expect include leather and Alcantara trim, aluminium accents, a panoramic glass sunroof, a Bose stereo and Fiat Group’s Blue&Me multimedia system.

The engine lineup will consist of a series of small capacity turbocharged petrol and diesel units with power levels ranging from 120hp up to 200hp. All units will meet strict Euro5 emissions standards expected to roll in by the end of the decade and each will be available with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Let’s hope that Fiat has learned its lesson from the last time in ran Lancia into the ground: sharing components is fine, as long as the marque retains some individuality. If owning a Lancia means that you just get a slightly different body on the same tired chassis, buyers will stay away in droves. Hmm, perhaps someone should mention this to Ford and GM (Pontiac G5, anyone?), too.

Lancia has reborn from the ashes. Let the resurrection continue, please.

I hope the Delta gets rear-view cameras, because the rear pillars are too thick.
