Photo Gallery: Dodge Challenger At The 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show
There weren't many Challengers at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, but I snapped a few shots of the two Challengers--one a 2010, one a 2011--that were on the floor. I know there are only four pics there, but they offer an early glimpse at the SE and one last look at the outgoing 2010 Challenger...

Photo Gallery: Mustangs At The 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show
The star of the Mustang portion of the Ford display at 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show was the 2012 Boss Mustang, but there were plenty of other goodies around, such as cutaway bits and pieces of the Boss. Take a peek above for a gallery of what Ford brought to L.A.

Photo Gallery: 2011 Chevrolet Camaro
Here's a peek at the Camaros that Chevrolet had on display on the floor at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. There weren't many Camaros on display--two convertibles and a coupe--but I shot some pics of what's on the show floor, so those who can't make it to the show during the public days can get a...

Fireball Run: The Final Day
Saturday was the final day of the Fireball Run, and it was also the last time we'd have to face down a track event--this time at Cordova Dragway Park in Cordova, Illinois. But we had to get there first. We departed Cedar Rapids, Iowa in the morning, with only a couple of bonus missions in hand...

Fireball Run: Day Two Of The Action
Things were a bit more settled today, as I felt a little more comfortable with the rhythm of the road at the Fireball Run. As on the day before, I took the while to start the day, with myself and High Gear Media teammate Joel Feder switching seats after lunch. The morning's first mission consisted...

Today, I got my first official taste of Fireball Run. I spent the morning behind the wheel of Team High Gear Media's 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS, before switching seats and taking over navigation duties in the afternoon. To reiterate, the Fireball Run is billed as an "adventure rally" which places an emphasis on scoring points in pre-assigned missions over pure abject speed (with the exception of a handful of track and autocross events spread throughout the run). While teams do score more points for being prompt, the rules of the game are set up to discourage speeding on public roads. This means...

Fireball Run: My First Day
I haven't yet driven the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS that Team High Gear Media is piloting in the Fireball Run, but I did get a chance to observe the festivies while getting ready for my turn as a particpant tomorrow. This evening, I watched Nelson Ireson, our intrepid track driver, take the helm at...

Fireball Run: The Author Dives In
I just arrived in Topeka, Kansas, to join Team High Gear Media in the Fireball Run. Today, I will mostly serve as an obsever, but tomorrow the adventure begins in earnest for me. My apologies for the lack of a recap yesterday, I was busy taking care of last-minute housekeeping before heading to...

Fireball Run: Recapping Days Three And Four
Our guys are still moving their way eastward across the country as they participate in the Fireball Run, and here's a quick peek at what happened on days three and four of the Run. On Day Three, our guys had no problems with the Fireball Run's assorted missions, only missing one 10-point bonus. But...

Fireball Run: A Recap Of The First Few Days
The Fireball Run has begun, and our guys in the Camaro have already had track experience, stumbled across a prototype Mercedes being tested, and spent a lot of time searching for a fire extinguisher. The big news is that after Day Two's track events, High Gear Media edged into the points lead...

Fireball Run: I'm Going To Race Valentino Balboni
Valentino Balboni. Lamborghini's test driver of the last 40 years, the now-retired Balboni has a special-edition Gallardo made in his honor. He'll be driving one in the Fireball Run. And I have to race him. The 2010 Fireball Run will be the first time Balboni has participated in a multi-day road...

In case you haven't heard, High Gear Media is competing in the 2010 Fireball Run. Our team of editors will take on the challenges, tracks, and missions to try to win the glory driving a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS. Along the way, we'll be helping to find missing kids as part of the event's larger mission. We hit the road for the event tomorrow, with the first autocross and track challenges on Friday, September 24. Just because the Fireball Run Adventurally is a competitive event, that doesn't mean you have to drive a sports car. If you want to do well at the track events, you should, but it's...

Fireball Run: The Route
Over the eight days from September 24-October 2, Team High Gear Media will be driving a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS, all but living out of it as we compete our way across the country. We'll be traversing 3,500 miles of the American heartland, from Henderson, Nevada to Galena, Illinois, and we won't be...

Fireball Run: The Rules
The rules of Fireball Run are, on their face, pretty simple. Two people per team minimum, four maximum. The car that runs the rally must actually run the rally--no trailering or support vehicles. The main team registrant must be a business owner, worth over $3.5 million, a celebrity, an active or...

Fireball Run: What Is It?
The Fireball Run might sound like one of the gonzo cross-country outlaw runs like the Cannonball Baker Sea to Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash (better known as the Cannon Ball Run) but it's actually a very above-board affair. Its core mission is not just to have fun or drive across the country...

High Gear Media Does The Fireball Run
Seventy-five teams, 3,500 miles, 8 days, with track events, missions, and one common goal: to help find missing kids. The Fireball Run kicks off September 23 and runs through October 2, and High Gear Media is taking part. We're in it to win it, and we'll be covering the event as we go. Joel Feder...

2011 Kia Optima Quick Drive
We just got back from driving the 2011 Kia Optima at Road Atlanta, and unfortunately, we don't have much to report. Why? Because we only got a handful of very reduced-pace laps around the track with the car. But we did spend enough time with Kia's latest sedan to give you the 10,000-foot overview...

There's no doubt that solar energy has a bright future (pun FTW!), but collecting and using it has proven to be challenging. The panels traditionally required to absorb it are big and bulky, and so many of them are needed to produce a usable amount of electricity that they aren't practical in most places. They're usually square, flat, and black, meaning they are normally hidden in situations where appearance is critical. Solar energy technology may now be ready to take a big leap, overcoming most of these hurdles. A Norwegian solar power company named EnSol, with the help of the University of...

Car Seat Nudges Drivers To Keep Them Alert
Active safety features are becoming old new in the car industry, but this one is a little unusual. It is designed to interact with the driver in a rather... intimate way. Its purpose is to be a constant reminder to the driver that there are other vehicles nearby. Specifically, it is intended to...

The Most Unique Concept Car You Have Ever Seen: 'Egochine'
If I told you to imagine a future car, what would it look like? Would it have four wheels, no wheels, wings? Would it look small, slow, and dorky, or impossibly fast? When I picture future cars, I think of stylish LED lighting, big wheels tucked under sexy, curved fenders, and aggressive styling...

Take The Pain Out Of Parking!
I don't want to pay to park my car somewhere. You don't want to pay to park your car somewhere. No one does. The fact is, if you're in a busy city, there's almost no way around it. You could do u-turns for hours, patrolling side streets for an empty spot without a meter. If one does happen to...

The Chumpcar Nashville 9 was a wet and ultimately doomed event, but it was still a blast.
