Opel will be releasing a new crossover model in early 2009 as the replacement for the current Signum hatch, which is sold in some markets under the Vauxhall label. Unlike the current model pictured above, the new Signum is being designed around General Motor’s Epsilon platform and will be sold around the globe by different GM brands. The newcomer will be larger than any previous Opel model and offer seating capacity for up to seven passengers.
According to Auto Express magazine, the next Signum will come with a 4WD configuration and possible hybrid drivetrain. It will also be positioned more up-market, and will include large alloy wheels, a panoramic glass roof and coupe-like styling. Powering the new crossover will be two twin-turbo V6 engines displacing 2.8L and 3.4L, delivering 250hp and 325hp respectively. These will be followed soon after with a turbodiesel variant.
Development of the new Signum also paves the way for the next generation Saab 9-5, which will share the same platform as the Signum and upcoming Vectra replacement.
Opel Signum V6 2.8. Bought this car in June 2006. Not satisfied. Have sent this car for rerepair at least 5 times to the dealer. Will never buy Opel or any GM car in my life.
