Sept. launch for Hyundai Genesis Coupe in South Korea

Posted on Friday 2 May 2008

Hyundai’s all-new Genesis Coupe made its world debut last month at the New York Auto Show but the car isn’t set to go on sale official until September and only in South Korea initially. Hyundai confirmed the car will eventually be launched in other markets including the U.S., Europe and China but has released details on a timetable or volumes.

The carmaker’s first RWD model, the Genesis sedan, was also launched in South Korea first and it isn’t expected to arrive in global markets until the end of the year. The coupe, meanwhile, should reach export markets in early 2009, reports Dow Jones.

The car will be available with a 3.8L V6 developing 306hp and 263lb-ft of torque or a 2.0L four-cylinder turbo with 223hp and 217lb-ft of torque. Claimed top speed is 149mph for the V6 and 137mph for the four-cylinder. Transmission options include a six-speed manual or five-speed auto for the four-cylinder car, or a six-speed manual or six-speed auto for the V6 variant.

Standard safety equipment includes anti-lock brakes, electronic brake distribution stability control and a full complement of front, side and curtain airbags.
