A brand new V6 dCi clean diesel engine rated at 235hp (173kW) and a 3.5L petrol unit good for 240hp (175kW) are the two new V6 offerings for the Laguna Coupe. Renault is proud of this model's sporting looks, and emphasizes its driving dynamics in the presentation. With optional 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels, short overhangs and broad track, the car should deliver on that promise.
Four-wheel steering, a successful option of the Laguna GT sedan, also makes an appearance in the Coupe, and Renault claims it improves safety by improving the stability of the car in high-speed corners while also making the car more agile and maneuverable at low speeds.
An AJ0 automatic six-speed transmission mated to either powerplant delivers power to the road, and close ratios give good acceleration - 0-100km/h comes in under 7 seconds. The rest of the details on the coupe are expected at Paris in October, with the first availability for press reviews shortly afterward, so expect the fourth quarter to be heavily laden with even more Laguna Coupe news.
Original: At the start of last year Renault announced an ambitious target of launching 26 new models by the end of 2009, but apart from the introduction of the new Laguna and Koloes there hasn’t been much of a buzz from Renault at recent major car shows. Things won’t be quiet for long as Renault is set to reveal a brand new GT coupe based on its Laguna this weekend.
The carmaker has launched a new teaser site for the upcoming car and from these initial images the new coupe is shaping up to be one svelte two-door. The car has already been previewed in concept form and the new production version is expected to be almost identical. The concept car featured frameless windows, a six-speed automatic transmission and black powder-coated alloys. Other goodies included LED detailing and a rear diffuser.
Renault is yet to reveal any details on the mechanicals but expect any production version to get a similar engine line-up to the new sedan and estate models. This means a series of diesel and petrol four-cylinder engines ranging from 1.6L to 2.0L with output ranging from 112hp to 204hp. A 3.0L V6 petrol model will likely be introduced as a range-topper.

The 2009 Laguna Coupe seems to be confirmation of the 2007 Laguna Concept (Go to www.supercars.net for pics) I too like it better than the Altima

What is the point of Renault offering petrol and diesel V6s with outputs that are dangerously close to each other ? If I was in charge of working out the power outputs, I would still have the diesel V6 generating 235hp/175kw and the petrol V6 generating 250hp/185kw or perhaps 260hp/191kw which would be a safer bet. Other than that, the Laguna Coupe looks quite elegant.

That's exactly what I thought. I guess this looks better than most french cars because they got some real inspiratin from Aston. Take the Aston out of it and it looks plain boring.

no im just saying.. this car generally looks like the altima and wiki confirmed its the same platform,.. but i had never heard of that so i was wondering if anyone knew for sure. cant trust wiki.
Tom: in places where this car is sold, petrol is as much as 2x as expensive as diesel. diesel engines are seen as sluggish and cheap. the petrol version will be what the real motor heads buy,... the diesel is the "almost" cool car. thats what my understanding is anyways.

Sorry chris, but that's a bit antiquated. At least here in middle Europe (where this car probably will be sold) diesel cars have gained a much better reputation during the last 10 years. Especially in Germany a whole lot of people would prefer the diesel version, although some weeks ago diesel prices have climbed to the same level as petrol (~1.45€/Litre).

In the US it always has been. There's a different taxation (and a different story) here. Diesel has always been the great hope in fuel efficiency. WIth catalytic converters and fine particulate filters diesel engines aren't as "dirty" as you might think and the consumption is way lower. That 235hp diesel-engine might average 34mpg.
To explain how diesel being the same level as petrol can be a sensation, for at least 20 years, diesel has always been about 10-20% cheaper than regular.
Another strange thing in Germany is that regular and super are the same price for about three months now. Therefore we still have super plus and some special things like "ultimate 100" or "v-power" which cost about 1,65€/litre (~10$/gallon).
