The Dodge Challenger isn’t officially set to go on sale until after its world debut at the Chicago Auto Show next February but if your keen to get your hands on one before then and are willing to pay a little extra then you can snap one up right now on eBay. The car up for sale on the auction site is a Challenger SRT8 model finished in HEMI orange and was the second Challenger in production.

The car is being sold to raise money for the United Way for Southeastern Michigan charity and the auction is set to end on the third of October. The SRT8 is the performance variant of the Challenger and comes with a 6.1L HEMI V8 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.

Challenger No. 1, meanwhile, will be auctioned at the 37th annual Barret-Jackson Collector Car Auction Event in Scottsdale Arizona in January next year. There will be one more Challenger up for auction on eBay but details of the sale are yet to be announced.

    New car. Hmm…
    5 speed?
Automatic? And a slushbox (torque conveter based).

I think it’s fantastic. It’s not meant to be high tech, it’s meant to be powerful and cheap. And no matter how much people put it down as being unsophisticated I bet it will sell better than any 7 speed rolling computer with a tinny 4 banger under the hood, for half the price.
Only problem is, how do you buy a car when you’re not even sure how much like the concept car it’s going to look?
I mean look at the new Jag, can you imagine bidding on the concept’s looks and then getting what was really built?

I don’t think you have to worry about the final product straying too far from the concept. The There’s nothing real exotic about the Challenger concept, nothing that didn’t make sense for production. Maybe a few interior details, wheels will probably be a bit smaller, but the final product should look pretty much just like the show car.

What’s interesting if you read closely is that only registered Dodge Dealers can bid on this car. So if you want it you will have to pal up to a Dodge dealer. Also, just about the entire purchase price will be tax deductable since the money is being donated to charity. Cool trick if you ask me.

    Ahhhh, I see.
Yes, that does make it a sweet deal for everyone except the final consumer… :)
I hope it stays true, the Mustang was quite a departure from the concept (the concept looks like the GT500 more than the normal V6 and GT).
