The new Camaro has been a long time coming, with numerous concepts on the scene for the past two years and more than six years having passed since the last Camaro was produced. The hot SS variant is taking even longer than the standard car, though these photos show the official final version of the fastest Camaro, expected to be powered by an LS3 V8.
The Camaro SS has yet to be officially unveiled with all of its technical specifications and details, but already GM has released the official photos of the car. The standard Camaro and its RS appearance package have also been released, however, and apart from a few important distinctions, the SS retains the majority of the new car's already familiar styling. The small opening just below the hood, a slightly reworked front fascia and a different set of badges look to be the primary differences externally.
Early rumors had pegged the new Camaro SS as using a slightly detuned version of the LS-series supercharged 6.2L engine found in the Corvette ZR-1 and Cadillac CTS-V, but the official word on the Camaro SS is that it will feature naturally aspirated engines, with a 6.2L LS3 V8 or 6.2L L99 under the bulging hood depending upon which transmission is selected. The LS3 is expected to produce 422hp (314kW) and 408lb-ft (553Nm) of torque in manual-transmission guise and the L99 will crank out 400hp (299kW) and 395lb-ft (535Nm) of torque for the automatic.

What I want to know is why the LS3 in the Corvette only requires regular, while the ones in the G8 GXP and Camaro SS need premium despite being detuned?

As much as I love seeing these cars return, I am still sad there will be no Z28.

Green Flag, a Nurburging lap time of 8m 20s is nothing to sneeze at. It may not be super-car worthy but this car is going to be a sub $40K car. If you want to break the 8 minute mark, you need to start dishing out some serios cash. I would like to see the Challenger or Mustang in stock form meet those numbers. Talk about heavy and clumsy.

Who cares? The car wont be out for some time yet, and I'm already sick of seeing it.
GM has teased this car WAYYYY too long.

Austin Douglas, I thought that as well, and the hood scoop reminds me of the on on the Corvette for the Z06.

I reserve judgement on this car until I actually see one in real life. By then, my need/want of a real Camaro will have long past. Missed opportunity for GM. Sad, really.
