Chrysler has now revealed that the entry-level Dodge Challenger SE will start at just $21,995, which includes $675 for destination charges. Dealers have also begun taking orders for the car, which will arrive in the third quarter of the year.
The SE comes standard with a 3.5L V6 developing 250hp (186kW) and 250lb-ft (339Nm) of torque. Mated with a four-speed automatic transmission, the car achieves an estimated 18mpg in the city and 25mpg on the highway.
Standard features include 17in aluminum wheels, side-curtain airbags, remote keyless entry, eight-way power driver's seat and MP3-capable CD player.
The mid-level R/T starts at $29,995 and features a 5.7L HEMI V8 with 370hp (276kW) and 398lb-ft (540Nm) of torque when paired with the standard five-speed automatic transmission. Also available is a Track Pak with a Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission for $995. This also includes a more powerful 375hp (280kW) and 404lb-ft (548Nm) of torque HEMI V8 as well as a limited-slip differential.
The range topper is the $39,995 Dodge Challenger SRT8, which comes standard with a 425hp (317kW) and 420lb-ft (569Nm) of torque 6.1L HEMI V8 as well as an available six-speed manual transmission or standard five-speed automatic.

well, I will admit, for 30 grand, Id rather have this car over any other. nearly 400 hp in a car that looks that good? lets see, what else is around that price range.. theres the MS3, which is FWD and 265 hp... theres the G8 at 400 hp... but that loses out on ugliness..
yep, way to go chrysler, if i had 30 grand and could afford about $500 a month in petrol.. that baby would be mine.. in the blue please.
but... another 10 large for a 50 hp boost? is it really worth it? nah I think i'd settle for the RT thanks.

Well, there's always the comparison to the Mustang. With the V8 you get the same mileage as this car does with the V6, and more horsepower to boot.
I guess those extra 600 pounds makes a big difference. It's like driving a Mustang around with THREE 200 pound BIG DUDES sitting in the other three seats. Yeah, that would be pretty noticable...
And from what I understand, the track times are almost identical, even with the extra horsepower of the 5.7 Challenger.

I like the 2009 Chevrolet Camaro much better. It looks soooooo bada**. I wonder if they r going to put a 6.0 liter in one of the models? or 5.7?

why are carmakers making such heavy cars? seriously if they could drop a few hundred pounds they'd get alot better gas mileage, thats what people care about now. I really like pontiacs G8, dodge's charger, and now challenger, and the mustang, but why so heavy?
the newest mustang has put on 100lbs since its last gen, and about 600lbs since the 1993 fox body. Its amazing that we can go out and have the option of so many 300+ hp cars, but can you imagine how much faster they'd be if they weighed the same as cars used to?
1991 mustang 5.0LX weighed 2715lbs, 225hp
2003 mustang gt coupe weighed 3241lbs 260hp
2008 mustang gt coupe weighs in at 3483 lbs 300hp
see a trend? higher horses and more weight the new ones arent really any faster
I see old fox bodies spanking the pants off of these newer 400hp monster cars everyone is making.
Dodge, cut your weight, not every car needs the hemi, if you made the car lighter it would be a super car with an engine like that
the charger and the G8 are great, but why the heck are they almost 2 tons? thats not a sports car at all, it might as well be a truck
