In preparation for the launch of the new model, production of the current car came to end in August this year. Existing stock of the current model is about to run out, which means there will likely be at least a six-month gap in supply.
Like the current model, the new Cabrio will feature a 3-in-1 soft top with a built-in automatic sunroof and heated rear window. One major change will be the addition of new rollover bars that rise automatic once the roof is lowered.
The engine lineup should mirror the powertrain range found in the Cooper and Clubman models, which means a base 1.6L petrol four-cylinder with 120hp and 160Nm of torque, a 1.6L common-rail diesel with 110hp and 240Nm of torque, and a 1.6L turbocharged petrol unit with 175hp and 240Nm of torque. All three engines will be available with a six-speed manual as standard or an optional six-speed auto.
The sporty Cabrio S model will also return, as well as the high-performance JCW sport package version, which will feature the same 208hp strong 1.6L twin-scroll turbo engine as the Cooper hatch.
The Mini Cooper Cabrio recently made news as being one of the safest compact convertibles on the market. The model’s rear roll bars protected back seat occupants better than any other model during a comprehensive rollover test conducted in Germany, but front passengers did suffer from partially collapsed A-pillars and poor seatbelt placement.

Whatever, it'll still look like a bathtub on wheels when the top is down. It's never been the best looking convertible.
