To keep costs low VW will use a conventional folding soft-top but noise and weather insulation should be comparable with the standard hatch. Handling and dynamics, however, will likely be worse because of the extra weight required to keep the chassis rigid.
The engine lineup should mirror that of the hatch, with four new petrol units ranging from 80hp (60kW) to 160hp (118kW), and two diesels developing 110hp (81kW) and 140hp (103kW) respectively. A 240hp (179kW) GTI model should also be available.
VW is currently undergoing a convertible renaissance of sorts, as it’s planning to add not only the new Golf Cabrio but also convertible versions of the Polo, Scirocco, and possibly even the up! minicar as well as an all-new roadster to its lineup.

I'm surprised that VW is going for a cloth top. They spent so much time and effort developing one of the lightest, most sophisticated retractable hardtops (which are all the rage in Europe and deserve to be here), then go ahead and use cloth on this car? I guess to differentiate it from the Eos, but I'm disappointed.

Yes well i think depending on how good the scirrico and golf do i think the eos will go, it,s not a great seller but it is a nice looking car.

Roy, even though some hardtops are considered lightweight compared to the past, they are still heavy, and more expensive to produce then a ragtop.

Golf Cabrio, Scirocco Cabrio, Beetle Cabrio and Eos... four C-segment cabrios under a same marque. Is Volkswagen that nuts?
