Mitsubishi has released the first images of its new Concept cX, a new AWD concept car that it’s planning to unveil at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Part of its new ‘Environment Initiative Program 2010,’ the Concept cX will showcase the carmaker’s latest Euro 5-compliant clean diesel technology that will be making its way into Mitsubishi’s production cars in 2009.

The compact SUV concept features a similar design language to the Lancer range and is powered by a 134hp (100kW) 1.9L diesel with an available 280Nm (206lb-ft) of torque. The powertrain also features a variable turbine geometry turbocharger as well as a diesel particulate filter and catalyst. Driving the wheels is Mitsubishi’s new dual clutch SST automated manual transmission, providing smooth gear changes and more efficient power delivery.

For its green credentials, the Concept cX comes with eco-friendly’ green plastics,’ including a new organic resin made from bamboo and other plant materials that’s used for the interior trim such as the floor mats, door trim, tail gate trim and seat back panels.
