Aston Martin Project One-77 revealed

2009 launch date for Aston Martin One-77
Aston Martin has confirmed a 7.3L V12 with ‘more’ than 700hp (522kW) for One-77

The era of epic supercars is certainly not over at Aston Martin, with the carmaker confirming the development of a brand new flagship model at the end of September following the release of an initial teaser shot. The first shot was quickly followed by a second official image and then, at last month’s Paris Motor Show, a life-size mock up of the car was put on display, although most of it remained shrouded. Since then leaked photos of the car show it from every angle, and now Aston has revealed a new video that gives in-depth detail on the origins and background of the One-77, ad what it means to the company.

The second episode in Aston Martin's ongoing Project One-77 mini-documentary (episode one here) reveals that the One-77 is being built not just as a halo car, but as an ultra-halo car, a sort of rekindling of the legacy of Aston Martin, plus a projection of the brand into the future. It's designed to be the most quintessential Aston Martin ever, and the most perfectly personalized car available.

Photos of the car leaked last month, blur the line between computer renderings and studio photos, but the video breathes some life into the car's sheetmetal, giving it the spark of a car actually seen in person. Both the photos and video show a car identical to the car glimpsed at the Paris Motor Show.

The show car, which still carries the working title of One-77, confirmed the new flagship will adopt some very Aston design traits. These include the squared off flanks, wide stance, and similar tail-lights to the DBS and Vantage V8.

Pricing for the One-77will start at close to £1.2 million and production will be limited to just 77 units. Despite the high price tag, Aston has reportedly received over 100 orders for the car, effectively selling out the entire production run. The sold-out status defies the incredibly weak current global economy and car market, as the roughly $2.1 million totals to nearly a quarter of a billion dollars worth of pre-orders. Even the deposit exceeds the price of many supercars at £200,000 ($351,000).

Coinciding with the partial unveiling of the show car came official confirmation that the One-77 will feature a 7.3L V12 engine with ‘more’ than 700hp (522kW), and capable of propelling the car to more than 200mph (320km/h).

According to a previously leaked sales doc, the drivetrain will also feature dry-sump lubrication and a rear-mounted six-speed automated manual transmission. Other leaked details include both left and right-hand-drive availability, a carbon-fiber monocoque body structure with hand crafted aluminum panels, active aerodynamics, and a kerb weight around the 1,500kg mark.

The custom-built nature of the One-77 echoes personalization programs recently undertaken by Lamborghini and Ferrari. Buyers will be able to customize every single part of the car, from the gearbox to the interior trim elements. Even the seats will be tailored to fit the driver and passenger’s individual curves. As the company CEO Ulrich Bez states in the video, the car should fit the owner like a tailored suit.

this may just end up being my dream car. there was talk about ford doing a 7L v12 for a shelby car... is this a ford sourced engine? as in.. a ford design? duratec family? is this related to the standard 6L v12 aston engine?

I will not be a sledgehammer 7l US V8 for sure ;) The longer I look at the picture the more it reminds me of other cars. 599 GTB, SLR, 350Z, ZR1 for example. The footsteps of the DB9 are quite enormous. Aston guys don't mess around!

    Andrew says

    Except it costs $2,400,000.

If I wanted to spring for a super-exclusive waste of money, I'd get a Reventon and still have almost a million left over.

    Roy says

Yeah, but I don't think James Bond drives a Reventon.

    Layne says

Wow they're really playing up the whole Bond thing huh? I honestly don't like the look anywhere near as much as the DBS or Vantage.

guearenteed this is not based off of any ford engines, in fact the car is most likely project aligator with Mercedes and that is for sure a 7 liter benz amg v12, this car should be amazing if it has german engineering behind it

rj; the thing about aston using MB engines is only when the ford deal runs out. ford by contract has the exclusive power plant rights to aston until 2012. so this is either a ford sourced engine, or a completely new one. plain and simple. they already use a 6L v12 engine which is a ford design (it's a duratec engine), which could quite easily be bored and/or stroked to 7L

should be a hell of an epic car, one to take on the enzo replacement probably.

If I become a millionaire before this is out I will place an order the thing is beautiful,,,and how does this not look as nice as the AMV8 or the DB9 this is epically beautiful even in these teaser pics.

And to the guy who'd rather a Reventon...one of 20 - who do you think is going to buy one for $1mil and then be prepared to sell it for the same price when he knows there are only 19more out there and the longer he holds on to it the more it will increase in value..especially if some get wrapped around trees etc.

Andrew from August 7th. You're a moron. You dont buy exotic supercars because of the price tag. If you can afford a Reventon, you can afford this. There's a saying I like to use..If you have to ask how much, then you can't afford it...

Kid is talking about "saving" a million dollars by only purchasing a 1 million dollar car. That's an oxymoron.

    blackghost says

it will be the best of Aston for sure. but 2.4 million can buy 10 DBS. lol! so i think DBS is good enough for me.

this car is beautiful, id like to see aston expand in shape abit tho and maybe even try a mid engined car...to compete more comeptitively with the ferrari's and lambo's especially with that price tag!

the price tag is cheap but the limited numbers you know the crazy rich guys will buy lol

i may be wrong but what the hell is with the headlights, maybe it is just for show but there seems to be a piece of carbon fibre over them. Im not sure what to make of this. probably just for protection before they reveal it.

  • Tue Oct 7 2008 4:29 AM

    Suggs says

Bradley -- the picture shows a model - the carbon fibre effect covering is just showing the shape of the lights. And most likely fing the entire model is made of fibreglass or something similar.

man finally get too see it. I love those tailights i think the rear end looks amazing.

    Gus says

I'm not sure about the vents ahead of the front wheels, but other than that it looks fierce.

  • Tue Oct 28 2008 5:05 PM

    azlan says

now that i see the full images of it i think aston should have just used this as a next production car, maybe replace the vanquish??, it just doesnt give that really exclusive appeal that bugatti or the reventon gives and i think that just because it looks soo much like a db9 etc it doesnt provide too much special except for the 7l engine lol...., but still the car is probably the best looking out there if it was cheaper it would be in my drive way!

  • Wed Oct 29 2008 10:34 AM

    Suggs says

Gus - it needs those vents ahead of the wheels I assume to allow enough air to reach the massive brakes ( most likely Carbon Ceramic or something similar ) needed to bring the beaast of a machine to a standstill.
