Change your oil. Let me repeat that. Change your oil! Tell your friends and family to get their oil changed, too, because neglecting that precious fluid will turn your car into an expensive lawn ornament. Amazingly, not everybody fully understands this concept. Some just forget to get this done while others simply don't even know it's something that's required of a modern automobile. A mechanic named Brian is here to show you what an oil filter looks like when you don't change your oil.

In this video, the oil has turned to sludge. The poor filter shown above was plucked from a car that went at least 50,000 miles between oil changes. With conventional oil, you'll hear recommended intervals of 3,000 to 5,000 miles. If you're running synthetic, you can probably go between 7,500 and all the way up to 15,000 miles in some cases.

You cannot go 50,000 miles. This is very bad for your car, and it will prove to be very bad for your wallet as well.

The same mechanic also shares a video of a Kia Soul getting its first oil change. The driver ran the car for 28,000 miles before coming in. Now the oil looks like chocolate milk. There's nothing delicious here, though, unless you're the dealership owner who is probably going to see this vehicle many times over the next few years when it has all sorts of problems related to owner neglect.

Actually, it will probably be the unassuming second owner that takes on all of those problems.
