Lego designers are quite good at getting us to part with our hard-earned dollars in exchange for a set of plastic bricks. That's because those bricks come in kits like the Speed Champions sets. The newest Speed Champions? A pair of iconic Ford race cars, the GT and GT40, for your scaled-down racetrack, er, desk.

Ford and Lego have teamed up to create this great new kit. This one includes the original Ford GT40 as well as the recent Le Mans winning Ford GT. Like 1966, 2016 will go down as a great year for the motorsports division at the Blue Oval, and this kit is a great way to celebrate that fact.

Designer Craig Callum calls this a dream project but he also states that there was a ton of pressure to get it right. The Ford GT40 is a motorsports icon, so that's not something you want to design poorly in scale form. Clearly that didn't happen, as the pictures of the Lego models look excellent. Check out the accompanying video for more of Callum's thoughts.

The latest entries to the Speed Champions sets join cars like the Chevrolet Corvette C7 Z06, Audi R18, and even a Ford F-150 Raptor that tows a Model A hot rod. This series boasts a great list of kits, and the Ford GT/GT40 duo only make it that much better.
