Ferrari’s [NYSE:RACE] LaFerrari flagship is being built in an exclusive run of just 499 cars but there could be more if new rumors of a convertible version turn out to be accurate. Rumors of an open-top LaFerrari originally surfaced about a year after the reveal of the coupe at 2013’s Geneva Motor Show.

Now there are new rumors the car has been privately shown to potential customers. The latest rumors stem from a photo uploaded to the Facebook page Automotive Passion (D. Benoit) that depicts what appears to be the silhouette of an open-top LaFerrari. The box the silhouette appears on its likely an official invite for the car’s private showing.

The new car, tipped to be called a LaFerrari Spider, would be the third LaFerrari variant. In addition to the coupe, there are also around 40 track-only models dubbed the FXX K. We’ve previously heard that Ferrari will build just 50 LaFerrari Spiders but we’re now hearing the figure will be higher.

A reveal this year ahead of the start of deliveries in 2017 is a strong possibility. The car would be a great way to mark the 70th anniversary next year of the first Ferrari-badged car, 1947’s 125 S.

Stay tuned for an update.
