In the upcoming superhero blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Marvel heroes face a problem, and it's not the homicidal robot of the film's title. It's figuring out which car to drive.

Audi was featured as Tony Stark's ride of choice in previous Iron Man films, and will return in that role for Age of Ultron. However, the brand's lineup may also be featured more broadly within the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well.

Stark has driven myriad versions of the R8 in previous movies, and this time he'll upgrade to the redesigned 2016 model that debuted recently at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. No word yet on whether he'll opt for the 5.2-liter V-10 or the all-electric e-tron powertrain.

In addition, Audi says a 2015 TTS and 2015 A3 Cabriolet will featured in Age of Ultron.

It's unclear what Audi's prominence in this movie means for Acura's big-screen association with the Avengers. The Japanese luxury brand was featured as the official automaker of the spy agency S.H.I.E.L.D. in the first Avenger and Thor movies. Tony Stark even traded his R8 for an Acura concept car in the original Avengers.

In fact, the various agreements Marvel makes with automakers makes it hard to track who is driving what. While S.H.I.E.L.D. agents drove Acura vehicles in two Marvel movies, they drives Lexus models on the television show Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

They also temporarily switched to Chevrolet Tahoes and Suburbans for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which was chock full of General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] vehicles.

Comic book fans love Marvel because of the consistency of its stories. The way multiple movies, T.V. shows, and other media are tied together gives the impression of a fully fleshed out fictional universe. That just isn't the case when it comes to cars, though.
