There’s a new entry-level range of cars at McLaren, called the Sports Series. There are just two models that make up the Sports Series at present, the 540C and 570S, and British journo Chris Harris was lucky enough to spend some time with the latter. He drives the car both on the road and track and comes away quite impressed, as you’ll see in this video from his YouTube channel Chris Harris on Cars.

As Harris explains, the 570S misses out on some of the trick features used in more potent models from McLaren, but this all adds to the car’s character and makes it fun to drive. His only real complaint is that the car doesn't sound very impressive.

It features the same engine and carbon fiber monocoque as the Super Series models but is described as a sports car. Output is capped at 562 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, which is enough to rocket the car from 0-60 mph in just 3.2 seconds and see it reach a top speed of 204 mph.

Here in the United States, the 570S starts at a very reasonable $184,900. We don’t get the tamer 540C but there are more Sports Series models on the way. One will be a Spider convertible and another will be a more practical model possibly with a shooting brake design.
