The next-generation Chevrolet Camaro isn't far from making its official debut. After all, we're swinging into auto-show season and the American muscle machine has already been caught out running hard in its camouflage colors.

It's becoming more and more clear that the majority of changes to the car will occur underneath the skin. Still, there will be some exterior revisions and the crew at TopSpeed just put their rendering skills to work.

The main generational change to the 2016 Camaro will be in regards to its platform. The current car utilizes the Zeta platform, which was originally brought to America to underpin longer wheelbase vehicles. For the 2016 model year, the Camaro will ride on the Alpha setup, which is already found under the skin of both the Cadillac ATS and the CTS.

It's a platform that is both lighter and stiffer than the outgoing Zeta platform, and that should prove to be a big boost to the overall performance levels of the Camaro. If Chevrolet can get the Camaro down closer to the 3,000-pound mark, it will leave Ford Mustang engineers scratching their heads. Challenger fans, on the other hand, can just yell "Hellcat!" at pretty much any complaint the opposition sends their way.

No matter which side you fall on, however, we can all admit that a lighter, stiffer Camaro is a great thing in that it will further push development of anything in its class. Now if they can just start to work on that pesky seeing-out-of-the-car thing.
