The upcoming SVT high-performance version of the sixth-generation Ford Mustang, due for the 2016 model year, has long been a subject of speculation and spy shots. It’s also been somewhat up in the air as to nomenclature.

A leaked badge image with the GT350 moniker seems to have resolved that naming doubt, however. The image of the badge comes via Mustang6G, and it purports to be an image of the actual badge that will appear on the cars.

So what should you expect of the 2016 Ford Mustang GT350? The most likely scenario is that the GT350 will be powered by an upgraded version of the GT’s 5.0-liter V-8 engine, with output potentially rated as high as 500 hp at the crank. That crank may also be of the flat-plane variety, based on the sounds heard in some spy footage of the car in testing.

Other upgrades include a very different exterior treatment, with a host of aerodynamically effective spoilers and lips, a diffuser, numerous vents, and a much wider stance thanks to flared fenders. A completely revised, track-worthy suspension setup is also likely.

The 2016 Ford Mustang GT350 should arrive during the first half of next year.
