Volvo’s XC90 SUV is arguably the Swedish automaker’s most important model yet the current one has been with us since its debut at the Detroit Auto Show all the way back in 2002. The good news is that an all-new model is just around the corner and is expected to bring with it a stylish new exterior, plush cabin, advanced engine technology and a host of new safety features.

Volvo has been dropping small tidbits of info on its new XC90 over the past year but this month it kicked off the SUV's official marketing campaign with a teaser video. Before you get all excited thinking you might get a glimpse of the vehicle, we should warn you that the video consists of only a series of interviews with potential customers stating what they want from the new XC90.

Volvo says it’s listening to its customers, but we start to worry when some of the requests are as vague as wanting the vehicle to feel like “it’s not just a method to get from point A to point B”.

This is just the first in a series of teasers, so stay tuned for more. Hopefully subsequent videos aren’t as painful to watch as this one.

The new XC90 will be revealed this fall and is due to go on sale shortly after. It will be powered exclusively by four-cylinder engines, but with turbocharging and hybrid technologies employed to ensure performance is comparable with rival V-6 and even V-8 models. Underpinning the vehicle will be Volvo’s new SPA platform which will eventually be used for the automaker’s full lineup of vehicles from the S60 up.

Also this month, Volvo announced that it formed a partnership with Swedish singer Robyn to help promote its fuel-efficient Drive-E engines as well as target a younger demographic of buyers. The campaign will include a television commercial as well as print and digital ads, and is a follow-up to a similar campaign undertaken with another Swedish music sensation, the Swedish House Mafia, to promote the XC60.
